Ground beef recipes are one of the busy parent’s kitchen staples and for good reason! They are so very easy to make and they cook pretty darn quickly, and quick and easy is almost always what we’re looking for when it comes to suppertime.
Another great thing about ground beef is how insanely versatile it is. It works in every dish from lasagna, chili, and sloppy joes to meatloaf, soup, and casseroles galore. It’s a kid-friendly ingredient that works in a ton of kid-friendly recipes, and the seasonings that work with it run the gamut. It’s like a kitchen chameleon!
And last, but certainly not least, ground beef is a relatively inexpensive meat option, which means we don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to provide a great meal for our families. Saving a buck or two is something we can surely all get behind!
When shopping for ground beef though, you have a couple of options to consider—the two big factors include the fat percentage and price. Typically the higher the fat percentage, the lower the price. The most common percentages you’ll find are 70% lean, 30% fat; 80% lean, 20% fat; and 90% lean, 10% fat. Now, fat does equal flavor, but there is such a thing as too much fat. Paula prefers a nicely balanced 80/20. What do you prefer?
