Easy Drop Chocolate Cookies

  • ½ cup shortening
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chopped nuts
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest, optional
  • 1 cup chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 400˚F.

Cream together the shortening and sugars. Add the buttermilk and vanilla, blending well.

Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.

Stir in the chopped nuts, orange zest, and chocolate chips.

Drop by the teaspoonful onto a greased baking sheet, and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
