Ingredients
- 1 frozen bread dough or canned refrigerated pizza crust dough
- 1-pound tube of bulk sausage
- 1 package shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg
- Italian seasoning, to taste
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 350˚F.
Fry or cook the sausage in a pan, breaking it up as you go along, and drain. Set aside.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface, about the size of a 9×13 pan.
Mix cheese with the egg and herbs until combined.
Spread the sausage all over the dough, leaving a one-inch border around the edges. Spread the cheese mixture over the sausage layer.
Roll it up lengthwise, and use toothpicks to secure the dough and ensure it stays together while baking (keep the toothpicks in while baking). DO NOT SLICE! Transfer the entire roll to a pan or stone. You may have to bed yours into a horseshoe shape to fit it on the pan.
Bake until golden brown, about 20-30 minutes.
Cook’s Note: If you are making two, one spicy and one not, crack some black pepper over the spicy one before it goes in the oven so you know which is which after baking.
