Use your slow cooker to make this creamy version of a classic dish.
Servings: 12 servings
Prep Time: 5 min
Cook Time: 3 hours
Difficulty: Easy
1 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoon (1/2 stick) butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup sour cream
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can condensed Cheddar cheese soup
3 eggs, beaten
2 1/2 cup (about 10-ounces) grated sharp Cheddar cheese
2 cup uncooked elbow macaroni (an 8 ounce box isn’t quite 2 cups)
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Boil the macaroni in a 2 quart saucepan in plenty of water until tender, about 7 minutes. Drain. In a medium saucepan, mix butter and cheese. Stir until the cheese melts. In a slow cooker, combine cheese/butter mixture and add the sour cream, soup, salt, milk, mustard and pepper and stir well. Add eggs. Then add drained macaroni and stir again. Set the slow cooker on low setting and cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.

It's a heart attach in a bowl but soooo damn good.... If you like CREAMY mac and cheese omit the eggs.... The eggs firm it up and can curdle. With out them this is creamy mac and cheese heaven!!!!

Love Ya Paula!!! I've enjoyed watching your shows over the years...thanks for all!

Awsome recipe. I noticed a few folks had an issue with curdling of the sauce. The problem is most likely the pre-shredded bagged cheese. This stuff is tossed with flour or some kind of starch product that keeps it from sticking and clumping in the bag, but really messes things up in this recipe. Shred your own cheese and the curdling issue should go away--It's much cheaper too, to buy a block than a "convenience" bag.

Hi.... Well, I watched the show and Paula had her son on that day, and they made meat loaf, mac & cheese with baked tomatoe's on top, and of course dessert and I quickly took down the receipe for the mac and cheese and I have made it several times since then. Now the worse thing has happened,......I lost my receipe!!!! I have been on site here SEVERAL times looking for the receipe and to no avil!!!!!!!!!! It was made with macaroni, 2cups American cheese, milk, flour, all done on the stove top, then it was poured into a pan and put into the oven and more chees was added and the tomatoes were put on top and they were cooked for just a very short time. CAN YOU HELP ME FIND THIS RECEIPE?? THANKS SOMUCH, Kim Davidson kimdavidson57@sbcglobal.net

This is a fabulous recipe!! I made it for the first time last week for a Christmas party at work. It was the favorite and went quickly. I have had so many people ask me for this recipe...and of course I tell everyone that it is Paula's recipe and it is on-line...but I also made a copy to hand out. I am now going to make it for my family for Christmas since they only got a small amount at the party. Oh, I used extra sharp white cheese...so yummy! Thanks for making me look so good, Paula! From one ole' Southern gal to another!!

We are such macaroni and cheese eaters, and I make a pretty "mean" macaroni and cheese, but came across this recipe and thought I would give it a try. All I can say is "WOW"! Can't wait to see what the family thinks!

I was in charge of bringing Mac & Cheese to my family's Thanksgiving dinner and received this recipe from a friend. I knew how crowded the kitcken would be on Thanksgiving Day and figured a crock pot recipe would be the way to go so I wouldn't have to stuff myself in the kitchen with everyone else. Since I had never made this mac & cheese before, I did a trial run, and I'm so glad I did. I followed the recipe (although I did use the bagged shredded cheese because I'm too lazy to shred my own cheese - sorry Paula)and the end result looked like mac & cheese mixed with scrambled eggs (ew!). The taste was good, but the texture was down-right weird. On Thanksgiving Day, I decided to omit the eggs completely. I also decided not to melt the cheese and butter before putting it in the crock pot. So, I cooked the noodles, then mixed the noodles and all of the other ingredients (minus the eggs, of course) in the crock pot and cooked it on low for about 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. This time, the mac & cheese was AWESOME! There were 9 people at my family Thanksgiving and we ended up eating the entire pot of mac & cheese. I have a feeling I'll be in charge of mac & cheese for holiday dinners from now on and will definitely use this recipe!

This recipe is fabulous...just LOVE IT...thank you so much Paula for sharaing...use a wisk when you are blending all the ingredients and by doing that the sauce will come out smooth.....awesome recipe...I will be making this over and over again...FIVE STARS plus for sure.

HELP! I cooked this version tonight but it was NOT creamy. What am I doing wrong? The texture was almost "curdled". Is it the type of cheese I am using? Tonight I used the Kraft bagged shredded sharp cheddar cheese and when I melted it with the butter it was a big glob. Is that what is supposed to happen? Will it be better if I used regular sour cream rather than light? Or if I shredded my own cheese? I LOVE mac n cheese but just can't seem to get the texture right on ANY recipe I use (even my own Mom's!)

Has anyone converted this recipe for the oven instead of a crock pot? I need to make enough for 14 families and I'm not sure my 2 crock pots will make that much. Thanks!
