Where to begin? Well, it all started back in 1989 with The Bag Lady, an idea that found its wings right in our home.
With Jamie & Bobby as my delivery boys, we began delivering home cooked bag lunches straight to the offices of local business people. We soon added a catering service, and, as the business continued to grow, we were able to expand into a full-service restaurant. In 1991 The Lady opened her doors on Savannah’s Southside, at the Best Western hotel. We still feel blessed that so many of our Bag Lady customers became familiar faces at our new restaurant, making it possible for us to think about looking for another location – a place where delicious southern cookin’ fit right in.
That place turned out to be the old Sears & Roebuck building – located right downtown on Congress St. in the Historic District. It took almost eight months of renovations, but The Lady & Sons officially opened her doors on January 8, 1996 – what a way to start the year off! Again, our loyal family of familiar faces followed. About that same time my first two cookbooks were published, and with not only local, but also now national attention, a whole new set of wonderful fans started lining up outside to eat. Our dream truly was becoming a reality.
Well, I never could have imagined what happened next: before I knew it we had out-grown our new location and needed a bigger one! Over the next couple of years I was able to purchase the White Hardware building – a historic 200-year old building that was just right down the street. Now, it took some work, but after fourteen months of renovations, The Lady & Sons opened her doors again in November of 2003. And, we made it just seven days before Thanksgiving, our biggest day of the year. Don’t y’all know I was nervous! But, everything worked out, and I am proud to say that we now offer 15,000 square feet of dining - that’s enough room to seat over 300 folks at one time - a full-service bar, some office space and a little room to grow.

I think Bubba tells it best, he says - Y'all know my family and I have never been what you might call "fancy eaters". Growing up in southwest Georgia, we never had white tablecloths or silver candlesticks. We just wanted to eat good food, laugh a lot, and have a good time.
When Paula & I opened the doors to Uncle Bubba's, we had one mission in mind. Our mission is to provide our guests with the finest quality meal available in an atmosphere that represents a friendly, comfortable environment. We invite you, your family and friends to sit at our tables and enjoy!!
