Are y’all feeling the heat still? If you’re still dealing with summer heat, let’s talk about food. During this time of the year, we naturally spend more time outside with our friends and family. These get-togethers usually include eating and drinking, so, today, I want to share with you some food swaps to stay hydrated and healthy while enjoying the sunny days.
Keep in mind that choosing fruits and raw veggies will save you calories and add tons of nutrition to your daily diet, so try to make them a staple on your daily plate!
-Popsicles instead of Ice Cream: with the high temperatures, a cold treat is a great idea to cool down our bodies. Ice cream has calcium, but it also has tons of fat and sugars, so fruit popsicles are your best bet. To avoid preservatives and unwanted ingredients, make your own at home!
-Veggies and Dip instead of Chips and Dips: if you start eating carrots and cucumbers with your hummus and guacamole, you’ll be hydrating your body and providing extra minerals and vitamins to your system. Pass on the chips and load up on your veggies!
-Homemade Burger instead of Corn Dogs: buying a good quality beef or making bean patties at home are two of your best bets when wanting to indulge! Skip the fried corn dogs and opt for this protein-packed meal. Pair it with whole-wheat bread and veggies for an even better swap.
-Grilled Seafood instead of Fried Seafood: think oysters, clams, fish, shrimp… you always have an option. If you choose grilled instead of fried, you’ll keep your cholesterol levels under control and will be saving some unnecessary calories!
-Wine or Vodka Soda instead of Daiquiris and Piña Coladas: opting for alcoholic drinks that are lower in sugar and calories will make you feel lighter. And always remember to drink a glass of water in between drinks to stay hydrated.
Hope y’all are having a fabulous summer!
