Favorite Recipes of The Lady & Her Friends: A Tribute to My Sons

By

It’s so hard to believe that it has been twenty years since I self-published my first cookbook Favorite Recipes of the Lady and Her Friends. Fourteen cookbooks later, I realize that this cookbook will always be one of my favorites—a true labor of love and a chance to share treasured recipes from family and friends. This expanded anniversary edition includes over 390 delicious recipes with the original illustrations based on my personal stories. When creating this book, my goal was to recreate the first edition and include my reflections from the past 20 years. Flipping through these pages brings back so many fond memories.

5,000 copies of the original edition were printed, and many of you know the story of how Jamie and Bobby snuck down to the corner printer and inserted “A Tribute to our Mom” into the book. Publishing this edition provided me the opportunity turn the tables on my sons. I invited Jamie and Bobby over to personally present them with the first copies of this special edition of Favorite Recipes of The Lady and Her Friends. Watch the video below to see the surprise unfold!

Paula Deen - As a young girl growing up in Albany, Georgia, Paula Deen never dreamed she would become an American icon. As a young mother, Paula was living the American dream — married to her high school sweetheart and raising two adorable boys — when tragedy struck. Her parents died, her marriage failed and she began a prolonged battle with agoraphobia. With her boys in their teens and her family near homelessness, Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside her soul and started The Bag Lady, a home-based catering company that marked the start of Deen's professional cooking career. With sons Jamie and Bobby delivering lunch-and-love-in-a-bag, beginning in June 1989, Paula turned her life around by sharing what she knew best, traditional Southern cooking.
