This is the ultimate Southern entree. Enjoy!

Servings: 6-8 servings
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 14 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

Paula Deen’s House Seasoning
2 1/2 lb chicken, cut into pieces
2 cup self-rising flour
1 cup hot red pepper sauce
3   eggs

Heat the oil to 350 degrees F in a deep pot. Do not fill the pot more than 1/2 full with oil.

In a medium size bowl, beat the eggs. Add enough hot sauce so the egg mixture is bright orange (about 1 cup). Season the chicken with the House Seasoning. Dip the seasoned chicken in the egg, and then coat well in the flour. Place the chicken in the preheated oil and fry the chicken in the oil until brown and crisp. Dark meat takes longer than white meat. Approximate cooking time is 13 to 14 minutes for dark meat and 8 to 10 minutes for white meat.

Thank you so much for this website! I wish I could have had the time to watch your show but with this site I can easily access your awesome recipes. Great job with everything you have done and keep it going. I didn't have the opportunity like my husband to grow up in the South but I am here now and loving it. I really wish more Americans could get a "Southern Soul" like I did, it would make this country great again. Always your Student, M. Perkins

I have made this multiple times and it's delicious. I make it with boneless breasts cut in tenders and I leave the hot sauce out. It is absolutely perfect.

My husband and I were at your Lady and Sons restaurant in the beginning of August. We had the buffet and Oh My Goodness it was to die for!! We loved everything, the fried chicken was so moist and the coating so light and crispy. The Mac and Cheese was also the best we've ever tasted. I am going to try both recipes on my own and hope they turn out as good as you serve in the restaurant. Your staff was incredibly nice and offered service that was the definition of Southern Hospitality. We loved shopping in the store as well. It was just a bit difficult to quit shopping! Savannah and Tybee Island are wonderful cities and we will be back to visit, and eat some more of your delicious food. Last but not least, we are with you...Keep your head held high!!! Ms. Dean You are the queen of southern cooking, my hat's off to you. We ate at the lady and sons on 9 and 10 Jul 2013...BEST fried chicken, catfish and etc ever. I'm from a southern black family and we pride ourselves on being great COOKS. Well when we got back home my husband went out and got two of your cookbooks, and has requested a meal per day from them. He now wants to plan our next vacation near one of your other restaurants. keep up the good work, God bless you and your family your new BFF, my husband Robert P.S. All of your people spoke very highly of you (who cares what the press says...They can't keep a good woman down.)Your staff was awesome.. The hostess (1st and 2nd floor), Waiters, the bartender (his wife is about to have a baby)and the singer with the amazing voice. We closed down the place and she was kind enough to give us a ride back to our hotel). I can't remember any of their names, but we will never forget how they made us feel like family. P.S.S. Copper City High School in Fort Lauderdale FL has a Drama teacher Angela J. Thomas who does a Paula Dean skit that is funny as heck.

This recipe is just outstanding. If you're looking for an amazing source of heritage breeds and truly free-range chicken, we have a local farm in Florida, Pasture Prime Family Farm, that supplies the best tasting chicken we've ever had. You can Google their website and order online. The quality of the chicken really does make a huge difference in how this dish turns out!

Haven't tried the chicken recipe because of the Hot Sauce. Doesn't agree with my 81 yr old digestive tract! How about substituting buttermilk instead?
