Recipe Courtesy of Paula DeenServings: 4 to 6 servings
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 20 min
Difficulty: Easy
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus butter for baking dish
1 cup cornmeal
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly grease an 8-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate bowl, mix together the eggs, buttermilk, and butter. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the cornmeal mixture and fold together until there are no dry spots (the batter will still be lumpy). Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
Bake until the top is golden brown and tester inserted into the middle of the corn bread comes out clean, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

TOO MUCH FATTY BUTTER

This recipe is stupid easy! it is a pretty mild, sweet cornbread that paired well with our chili tonight. I got this recipe "adapted" off of Pinterest, and the only thing that was different was the amount of sugar, my recipe called for 1/4 c and while my husband thought it was sweet, I didn't think it was too sweet at all. I did find mine to be a touch dense , which I actually like, and was super moist. This is the first recipe for cornbread, for me, that didn't crumble. YAY! If you want sweeter, try with 1/4 c sugar...OH, and I used regular milk....didn't have whole(as my recipe called for), or buttermilk, but tasted fine.

Love ur recipes!!!!

The questions are: was it crumbly? Was it moist? Was it dense? Was it traditional? Did it hold together and taste like grandma used to make? Not one comment says how it turned out, crumbly, not crumbly, sweet enough, fell apart, great, dense, holds together... changed what? Got what? Need a helpful comment on the recipe, please.

This cornbread was delicious! I would also like to use this recipe for a very sweet cornbread. I actually used 1/2 Tbs more sugar than the recipe called for and couldn't really even taste the sugar at all. How would I make this recipe really sweet?

Love the texture but we prefer our cornbread a bit sweeter, so I'll add more sugar next time. I preheated the skillet in the oven prior to pouring in the batter which makes it crispier on the outside.

I tried your cornbread mix and it was better than what I have always made from scratch! You added sour cream and maybe an egg. I can't find it any more and would love to get it again. Can you tell me where I might find it? I found the one I tried from Big Lots but they have not had any more! We are across the bridge from Evansville, IN. if there is a store over there that might have it or can it be purchased from your website. I would really appreciate any help you might be able to give me!

Loved this cornbread, so easy but delicious. I added a little extra sugar, my husband likes his cornbread a little sweeter. Was very moist and light, will make again.

I love this cornbread recipe! The addition of butter in the batter makes additional butter unnecessary after baking. It is delicious and my whole family agrees!
