  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 4 eggs, (1 for the crust, 3 for the filling)
  • 1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped pecans

Step 1

Melt butter over medium high heat. In a large bowl, mix yellow cake mix, 1 egg and melted butter. Pat 2/3 of the mixture into the bottom of a prepared 9x13 pan and bake for 10-15 minutes at 350°.

Step 2

As the crust bakes, use a hand mixer to combine the reserved 1/3 of batter mixture, the remaining 3 eggs, the corn syrup, sugar and vanilla. Stir in the pecans. Pour this mixture over the partially baked crust.

Step 3

Bake in a 350° oven for 30 minutes, or until the cake is set. Let cool, then cut into bars.

This recipe did

This recipe did not work for me. It was too cake like and not at all bar like. I was so disappointed because I loved the concept and I love pecan pie. I followed the recipe to the letter. Bummed out.

In the oven right this minute! We will have them tomorrow night for Christmas dinner instead of traditional pecan pie.

I made these last night and they are delicious. I cooked it for a total of 38 minutes and it still didn't look done and i was afraid it would over cook. They were a little difficult to cut and they are gooey. Did I do something wrong? However, they taste great. Just need a fork to eat it.

I followed this

I followed this recipe to the T. I was very excited to taste these "bars", but mine turned out like cake. I am very disappointed in this recipe. Not bars at all. Next time I will follow the recipe that used flour instead of the cake mix. Tastes ok, falls apart when cut and nit bars at all. :(

I just wanted to

I just wanted to make a comment to Tammy....These will travel very well but she can also send her son pecan pies if she makes small ones in muffin cups.I made and sent them for several years while my husband was in the Navy and they always made it to him in perfect condition
