Recipe Courtesy of The Deen FamilyServings: 4
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon, plus 1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons boiling water
1/4 cup orange juice
2 oranges, zest finely grated and juiced
2 (1-pound, 1/2-inch thick) ham steaks
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch and boiling water until the granules dissolve. Whisk in the orange zest and juice.
Put the ham steaks in a large baking dish. Pour half of the glaze over the meat, turning once to coat them evenly. Bake for 1 hour, flipping the steaks occasionally and basting them with the remaining glaze. The glaze will thicken and the finished ham will be golden around the edges. Remove from the oven and transfer the steaks to a serving platter. Serve hot.

Hi Paula, Been a big fan of all of you for years now. I just thought I would share a quick recipe I have for what I call my "Pineapple-Coconut Rum Ham". I'll share the quick recipe for ham slices, I just love to buy a beautiful smoked ham from the market and have them slice it into steaks!lol Ingredients: 4 steaks of Smoked Ham (Sliced however you like them) 1 bottle of Pineapple-Coconut Jack Rum (You can find this at most every where that sells spirits) Olive Oil Directions: This recipe is really easy, Start with a cast iron skillet over med. heat, (You can use any non-stick as well, I just love my cast iron skillets!) Add a little olive oil and then your slice of ham. Immediately add a good splash of the Pineapple-Coconut Rum, cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, turn, add another splash of Pineapple-Coconut Rum and allow to cook until done. Serve with cheese grits, whip yourself up a little Red-Eye gravy from the drippings in the pan and you got something that sure is hard to beat!:-) It's also excellent served in sandwiches! I also have this recipe for whole or half hams! Just a little more work and a few more ingredients. But, I tell you what...It's well worth it and I usually sell quiet a few around the holidays!;-) Please check out my facebook page (if you get the chance), Tender Butts Bar-B-Q Thanks, I hope you get a chance to try it and Merry Christmas!
