Ingredients

  • 1 (5 lb) bone-in standing rib roast
  • olive oil, to rub on meat
  • 3 tablespoons Paula Deen's House Seasoning

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375º. Place a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.

Step 2

Let the roast stand at room temperature for at least an hour. Rub the roast all over with olive oil and the House Seasoning. Place on the roasting rack with rib side down and the fatty side up.

Step 3

Roast for 1 hour. Turn the oven off. Leave the roast in the oven but do not open the door for at least another 3 hours. (It can sit in the oven for up to 6 hours after roasting) About 30-45 minutes before serving time, preheat the oven preheat the oven to 375º. Reheat the roast until a meat thermometer reads 120º.

Step 4

Let rest 10 minutes and serve. This may just be the most perfectly cooked roast you will ever taste!

I've been using

I've been using this recipe for a few years now. My family always loves this, Christmas wouldn't be the same without it. I'm not always really exact about how much seasoning I put on it and probably go overboard, but that doesn't hurt it a bit. I've cooked full boneless loins and half boneless loins and it always works. I have a digital probe to keep track of temp the 2nd time that I turn the heat on and make sure it reaches that 120 mark. My family all likes medium rare and this is perfect for us. The leftovers are amazing too! We purposely cook extra just to have leftovers, we especially like steak and potato hash or steak sandwiches.

I would rate this recipe from 1 to 10 with 10 being the best at a 20++.
The rib roast was so tasty and juicy. The best roast we have ever had.
I now use this roasting method on just about any kind of roast we get from the store. Thank you so much for making our meals wonderful.

Absolutely foolp

Absolutely foolproof. I have tried with a large roast and a smaller one and it didn't matter. Using this method it was absolutely perfect! I do an herb crust and that didn't seem to make a difference at all. This one is a winner!!!
