Sausage and Cheese Balls Recipe by Paula Deen

  • 1 lb spicy Italian pork sausage, bulk, room temperature
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons Vidalia onion, grated
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups baking mix
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste
  • non-stick spray
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey


Step 1

For the balls: Heat oven to 375°. Line a sheet tray with foil and spray with non-stick spray.

Step 2

Add all the ingredients to a stand mixer outfitted with a paddle attachment and blend together for 2 minutes.

Step 3

Form into 1 inch balls, and place 1 inch apart on prepared sheet tray. Bake for 18 minutes, turning the balls halfway through baking.

Step 4

For the dip: Combine mayonnaise, mustard, and honey in a bowl. Serve with hot sausage balls.

About 37 years ago, my MIL wrote out my favorite of her recipes on little 3X5 cards and gave them to me as a gift. This was one of those favorite recipes. She been long gone now, and it's still my go-to bring along, and it's always a hit. Try it once and you will see!

Made these for a happy hour! good thing I had one before they were all gone all the girls were asking for the recipe.I did add red pepper flakes since i just used mild pork sausage. it is a keeper thank you, Paula.

This is an expan

This is an expanded version of the old Jimmy Dean recipe. I have all these ingredients in my cupboard so although the big game is over can't wait to make a batch for the family.
