Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup self-rising flour
8 tablespoon (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup water
2 cup sugar, divided
4 cup peeled, sliced peaches
1 1/2 cup milk
ground cinnamon, optional

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine the peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in a saucepan and mix well. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat.

Put the butter in a 3-quart baking dish and place in oven to melt. Mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping. Pour mixture over melted butter. Do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Sprinkle top with ground cinnamon, if using. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes. To serve, scoop onto a plate and serve with your choice of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

Paula, you rock!! Coming from a long line of down-home cooks who take our soul food seriously, I followed this recipe to the letter, and couldn't get over it!! Fast, easy, and gone before the dish got cold. Long live the Queen!!

This is the easiest and best tasting peach cobbler I've ever made!!! My husband compares all of my desserts to one of his aunt's desserts and this is the first time he's ever said mine was better!!! Thanks Paula!!!!

Thank you Paula Deen! I would have never tried this recipe, but did it and so glad i did. this is the best peach cobbler ever, hands down. I no longer need to look for the perfect PC, found it! My husband told me to print this and safely store this recipe. He loved it. My sister Joni told me you were good, I am a beliver...I thought it would not taste good and be soggy because the recipe was too simple. I was so wrong and the crust was prefect and delicious!

I was completely out of sugar and used Splenda instead and it worked very well. I noticed the cobbler "swimming" in butter though and thought that I could've used less butter. I also used regular flour with the "conversion" that one of the raters suggested. It was very good.

To help the person that has had trouble with the crust rising to the top...make sure you are using self-rising flour. If you don't, it won't rise to the top.

DEeeeeEEeLish! REALLY IMPORTANT - the recipe calls for SELF-RISING FLOUR. I think the last reviewer used all-purpose flour instead of self-rising flour. One conversion is: substituting 1 cup of all purpose/plain flour minus 2 tsp., and add 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt to make the full cup. ENJOY!! I sure did!

My mom & I have made this twice and both times the dough is rubbery. Cannot eat it, just can eat the peaches off the top which are great with ice cream. Recipe says the dough will rise to the top, but ours doesn't, please help!!! What are we doing wrong!

Yummy!! I made this for my mother-in-law for her bday. I followed the recipe exactly and it could not have turned out better. I was pressed for time and forgot to add the cinnamon. I baked mine for exactly 45 min. We served it w/ vanilla bean ice cream. Thank you Paula!! I can't wait to make this again.

I'm from a family of great southern cooks, but this is the best peach cobbler I've ever tasted. My mother-in-law (who is not a good cook) prepared it for my housewarming dinner yesterday and it was a big hit at the party. Thanks!

I have made this cobbler 5 times this month alone! Everyone loves it. I cooked the peaches longer in their own juice instead of water and it made them more candied, I also use canned peaches. I love this recipe...if Paula has this recipe up I know it has to be good. Who else can you trust for something as Southern as peach cobbler?!
