Use your slow cooker to make this creamy version of a classic dish.
1 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoon (1/2 stick) butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup sour cream
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can condensed Cheddar cheese soup
3 eggs, beaten
2 1/2 cup (about 10-ounces) grated sharp Cheddar cheese
2 cup uncooked elbow macaroni (an 8 ounce box isn’t quite 2 cups)
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Boil the macaroni in a 2 quart saucepan in plenty of water until tender, about 7 minutes. Drain. In a medium saucepan, mix butter and cheese. Stir until the cheese melts. In a slow cooker, combine cheese/butter mixture and add the sour cream, soup, salt, milk, mustard and pepper and stir well. Add eggs. Then add drained macaroni and stir again. Set the slow cooker on low setting and cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.

I believe that macaroni & cheese is the best thing in the history of the universe. However, I'm very picky about the macaroni & cheese that I eat. Kraft has always been my number one pick, followed by Bob Evans. Each time I've tried to make homemade mac & cheese, I usually find myself wishing I had just made some from the blue box instead. However, I adore Paula Deen and this recipe looked absolutely delicious, so I decided to give it a shot. I tweaked it slightly, using a mixture of sharp and mild cheddar, as well as American. I also used no eggs, and cooked it for two hours instead of three. Since my taste buds are stubborn and definitely prefer Kraft, I have to say that the stuff from the blue box is still my favorite. But I loved this mac & cheese recipe from Paula Deen and I would definitely make it again for a big family dinner or holiday.

This is awesome Mac N Cheese. I like the consistency of pepper. This recipe makes for a curdy style mac n cheese....it's not smooth like off-the-shelf Velveeta Shells and Cheese. I like the curdy texture of the cheese however I may not have melted the butter & cheese long enough which perhaps resulted in the curd like texture. Reminds me of Cafeteria (restaurant...not school) style mac n cheese. It's light and would be the perfect recipe to please everyone.

Horrible! Lumpy, overcooked in only 2 hrs in the crockpot (mushy). Yuck! And no flavour.

Wonderful!! My kids & husband loved it. It's so easy to make. I've made it in both the crockpot & the oven with perfect results everytime. I haven't made a Paula recipe yet that isn't a big hit in my entire family.

This is the best ever! I have tried all of Paulas recipes for Mac and Cheese. I do agree to cut back on egg (1 only). I have always baked mine, and find that any of these recipes can be baked as well, not using a crockpot. Paula is the best, and, although our taste may vary, the foundation is sure set! My family and I Luv ya Paula! Thanks for all the dang home cookin Cousin!

This was the easiest to make! It was great - great taste! My husband turned his nose up when he saw the Cheddar cheese soup going in - it came down fast when he tasted the end product!!! We both enjoyed it -- even as leftover it stay moist. The best I ever made. throw away those box mac & cheese!!

this recipe is ok, not the creamiest! but good, I added a jar of plain cheese dip, kinda white trash but super good! and it made this recipe much creamier!

My husband ADORES this mac and cheese recipe! He is extremely fussy and even though I've always liked my own recipe, he was never thrilled with it. Well, he's thrilled with this one! I made it a couple of weeks ago and he's asked me to make it twice more since then. Guess what's for supper tonight? Paula's mac and cheese! Yum!

I love and trust Paula's recipes but this is one that I did not enjoy. The mac and cheese did not meet my definition of creamy. It taste a bit gritty. I did not like it and will not be making it again-nothing to write home at all.

such a great recipe! i used only one egg and baked in oven on 300 for 1 1/2 hours and put extra cheese on top. everyone loved it!!!! will become a regular in our house!!!! thanks

I made it for Christmas & the family loved it! I used a whole stick of butter instead of half and did not use eggs. I only cooked it for 1hr 15min stirring it every 30min and then putting a layer of cheese on top for the last 15min. P.S. If you use rotini noodles it's just like Boston Market's mac & cheese.

I've made this recipe several times and it is ALWAYS a huge hit! Sinfully delicious & creamy. Making it again tonight...!

I love mac and cheese but have been unable to find that perfect recipe. I just made this recipe today. It was so smooth and creamy my husband and son absolutely loved it. My husband said that this was the best mac and cheese yet. So this will be the recipe I will use from now on.

I baked at 350 in oven about 22-25 minutes then stirred. Mixed some butter and plain bread cumbs together and spread on top and put under broiler to get brown. Also only used 2 eggs. Have made it twice and family loved it. Way to go Paula.

Let me tell you what I did. I forgot the cheese soup and bought cream cheese instead of sour cream, but I left those two out and added one more egg, more milk, and more cheese. It turned out great. Next time, I want to make it right and it should be even better.

I tried this recipe for Thanksgiving and my family loved it...Making it again for Christmas. Thanks Paula

This is the best I have had so far, we followed the recipe except for cook time, we only cooked it in the crock pot for 2 hrs and 15 minutes and it was perfect. The only stirring we did was at 30 minutes into cook time, 60 minutes, then 90 minutes, followed by topping it with the rest of the cheese and leaving it alone for the remainder of the time. Crock pots may have different temps at low but mine did not need 3 hours.

If your having problems with the eggs in your creamy mac and cheese, feel free to omit. This is a "southern" step that Paula loves...making the mac and cheese creamier. A more straight forward recipe is The Lady's Cheesy Mac. Please give it a try.

I followed the directions and after about 2 hours it looked great... but we waited the recommended 3 hours and by that time it was lumpy and separated and the noodles were falling apart. We want to try it again and might bake it this time... any suggestions on baking time and temp?
Submitted on December 12, 2009

What's up with the eggs? The dish does not curdle, the eggs get scrambled. Omit the eggs, and cook for about half the time in the slow cooker.
Submitted on December 12, 2009

I made it for Thanksgiving and it turned out great!

I tripled this recipe for a mens' association dinner. They loved it and asked if I had another crock pot full in the kitchen. I was hoping for leftovers to have for myself but no such luck. Each time I do a dinner for them they ask if this is on the menu. Making it this weekend, for the family this time, it's going to be cold and rainy. This is so good and cheesy. The best mac and cheese under the sun!

This is the easiest mac n cheese recipe ever. I make it for all the family functions and it is always the first thing to go. The only thing I changed was to add bacon to the top when it finished. You can not go wrong with this dish.

This is bar none the BEST mac and cheese I've ever had - and I'm a HUGE mac and cheese fan. After reading other reviews on the Food Network site - I cut to one egg, only cooked for an hour and a half, and use a little extra cheese. It is SO delicious. I have made this twice in the last month - if you are a mac and cheese fan, you HAVE to make this. It's SO easy as well.
Submitted on October 10, 2009

This is SO yummy and very easy. After reading several reviews on different sites - I only use 1 egg and about 13 ounces of cheese and only leave it in the crock pot for about an 1 and a half and it's ready to go! It is so cheesy and delicious. Made it for the first time a month ago and have already made again.

This is the best tasting and easiet Mac and Cheese Recipe I've found. I lowered the fat content by using fat free Half and Half instead of whole milk, using fat free sour cream, using egg beaters instead of whole eggs, and using low-fat sharp Cheddar Cheese. I use whole wheat elbow macaroni to up the fiber content. By keeping the the Cheddar Cheese soup, the butter, and by using a fat free half skim milk, cream combination (the FF Half& Half) this is remains a creamy and bursting with flavor recipe. Thank you Paula!

I made this for a dinner for 25 so I doubled the recipe. The meal was baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans and blueberry muffins. It was a cold and snowy night so I thought comfort food. This was such a hit! The ultimate comfort food! I have made it three times more and the leftovers are yummy too. You can't miss with this one.

Amazing. I made this for a group of 25 with baked chicken, homemade muffins and salad. I thought of comfort food for a night with very low temperatures and snow. It was such a hit. I usually don't use a recipe I haven't made before but this one sounded so good I had to. It didn't let me down, it was fanastic. I'm making it for own family this week. I'm not a fan of macaroni and cheese but this one makes me a believer. It hits the spot with melty cheese and creaminess. You won't be sorry.

Ms. Deen, Your rating numbers should exceed 5 on this one! I first saw your sons make it on Good Morning America last year...when they said it contained sour cream, I was sold! Tried on the "fam" this Thanksgiving...it was a HUGE success; I won't look for another macaroni and cheese recipe! I've talked about it so much everyone wants to try it! If I can successfully make this...ANYBODY can!!! Thank you for making me a "seasoned" cook!!! Love you, Charlotte William aka Heaven
