Servings: 10 servings
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 4 hours
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

2 tablespoon chili powder
2 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoon dry mustard
1   bay leaf, crushed
4 lb beef brisket, trimmed
1 1/2 cup beef stock

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Make a dry rub by combining chili powder, salt, garlic and onion powders, black pepper, sugar, dry mustard, and bay leaf. Season the raw brisket on both sides with the rub. Place in a roasting pan and roast, uncovered, for 1 hour.

Add beef stock and enough water to yield about 1/2 inch of liquid in the roasting pan. Lower oven to 300 degrees F, cover pan tightly and continue cooking for 3 hours, or until fork-tender.

Trim the fat and slice meat thinly across the grain. Top with juice from the pan.

Not sure if this is a dumb question, but do you place the brisket on a rack in the roasting pan so when you add the liquid, the brisket is above the liquid? or just place the brisket in the pan into the liquid? Thanks! really looking forward to trying this!

A really good briskit. Sorry, it's not a "Texas" briskit because it's cooked in the oven. A Texas briskit cooked in the oven is an oxymoron. But a good trade-off of time for taste. Let's call it Paula's Briskit.

My family LOVES this brisket. Started using seasoned salt instead of the white salt. PERFECT!

I'm trying to epand my cooking skills and I have never made a beef brisket before. This recipe was soooo simple and was amazing! Both my son and spouse do not like peper and spicy, This was full of flavor. I used some of the leftover juices to make a gravy too - Amazing!!! Thanks from the Payton family in Spokane Washington.

This was a wonderful recipe. Followed it exactly and it was perfect. I served it at a dinner party for my inlaws and they raved about it. I'm always happy with Paula's recipes!! They are always fool proof and delicious. I can't wait to make this again.

This is hands down one of the best meat recipes I have every cooked. The brisket was so tender it fell apart. I even added some mushrooms and onions and it was great. A new family favorite!

This is a family favorite and I want to serve it at my son's graduation party. I need to make it ahead of time and freeze it. What is the best way to freeze and then reheat? I will be serving around 30 people and I have access to an oven and an electric roaster.

We loved this!!! Never had made a brisket before so we bought a small one in hopes we wouldn't "messed" it up and boy were we kicking ourselves for not buying a bigger one! It was simply heaven! Everyone is always asking for us to make our brisket for any occasion they comes to mind! Thanks!

This is the best recipe I have found! Thank you for making a simple but awesomely flavourful brisket. I made this for my father's birthday, everyone loved each mouth watering bite. My family says I can't cook, but on that day, you made a cook out of me!
