Texas Oven-Roasted Beef Brisket

Ingredients Add to grocery list

2 tablespoon chili powder
2 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoon dry mustard
1   bay leaf, crushed
4 lb beef brisket, trimmed
1 1/2 cup beef stock

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Make a dry rub by combining chili powder, salt, garlic and onion powders, black pepper, sugar, dry mustard, and bay leaf. Season the raw brisket on both sides with the rub. Place in a roasting pan and roast, uncovered, for 1 hour.

Add beef stock and enough water to yield about 1/2 inch of liquid in the roasting pan. Lower oven to 300 degrees F, cover pan tightly and continue cooking for 3 hours, or until fork-tender.

Trim the fat and slice meat thinly across the grain. Top with juice from the pan.

Not sure if this is a dumb question, but do you place the brisket on a rack in the roasting pan so when you add the liquid, the brisket is above the liquid? or just place the brisket in the pan into the liquid? Thanks! really looking forward to trying this!

A really good briskit. Sorry, it's not a "Texas" briskit because it's cooked in the oven. A Texas briskit cooked in the oven is an oxymoron. But a good trade-off of time for taste. Let's call it Paula's Briskit.

I'm trying to epand my cooking skills and I have never made a beef brisket before. This recipe was soooo simple and was amazing! This is hands down one of the best meat recipes I have every cooked. The brisket was so tender it fell apart. I even added some mushrooms and onions and it was great. A new family favorite!
