Servings: 2 1/2 dozen
Cook Time: 1 hour 40 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, plus more for coating cookies
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting hands
1 cup chopped pecans, (very small pieces)

Directions

Preheat oven to 270 degrees F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Using an electric mixer at low speed, cream the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the vanilla. At low speed gradually add the flour. Mix in the pecans with a spatula.

With floured hands, take out about 1-tablespoon of dough and shape it into crescent. Place the cookies 1-inch apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Cook’s Note: Continue to dust your hands with flour as you make more cookies.

Bake for 40 minutes. Dust with additional confectioners’ sugar while still warm. Cool completely on wire racks and store in airtight containers.

Hi Cecy, The 40 min. cook time is correct. The 1 hour 40 minutes includes prep and cooling time. Happy Baking!

I'm wanting to make these cookies; however I'm a bit confused. The recipe states that cook time is 1 hour and 40 minutes, yet the directions say to bake for 40 minutes at 270 degrees. Which is correct 1 hour and 40 minutes or 40 minutes. Thank you for setting me straight.

Dearest Santa, please forgive me for eating all of these pecan tart cookies. I truly tried to save them for you. They just kept calling my name along with the gallon of milk in the fridge. Oh they were so tender, buttery and melt in your mouth delicious! Addictive! Maybe next year big guy!

This is a similar recipe to one our family has been using for generations. We use almonds instead of pecans and they're called Viennese Crescent Cookies. We also use granulated sugar but the premise is the same. I'm really enjoying collecting all these recipes from you! Thank you and God Bless you for all you do!

Hi Paula, Iam of Italian and Creole desent. My Italian grandmother made these exact cookies and we called them coocoons. They are a tradition to be placed on the weeding cake table at all Italian weddings. Iam also trying to find a recepie for a cookie that we called hay stacks. Do you have one by any chance? Love your show, and happy holidays to you and your family Mike

For years I searched for my mothers pecan sandies cookie recipe. I read every cookbook available. Last night my husbaand said that Paula had a cookie swap on television and I watched it and lo and behold my mothers pecan sandies were Grandma Paul's sand tarts. Thank you Paula, you helped me to get back a lost recipe of my mothers. Merry Christmas.

These cookies are insane good! Very buttery and delicate. We used pecan chips. I think the uniformity of the pieces was important. We also dusted them in powdered sugar twice. We tried to give them away for Christmas. Most of them never made it out the door!
