Recipe Courtesy of Paula DeenServings: 6-8 (depending on the size of the cakes)
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 10 min
Difficulty: Easy
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg, beaten
2 cup milk
1/2 (4 tablespoons) melted butter
Powdered sugar, for topping
Combine milk, egg, and vanilla in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar and gradually add to wet ingredients. Beat with a mixer until a smooth batter forms. Fold in melted butter. Pour batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle while using your index finger to stop the flow of the batter. Bring the funnel over the hot oil and release your finger to start a stream of batter while moving the funnel in a circular motion to create spiral-like shapes. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and slightly puffed. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Hi Paula, I saw you on tv this morning and I've heard all day about you having diabetes. I wish you well. I have diabetes and I love your cooking so does my 16 year old grandson who loves to cook and got some of your cookware for christmas, but I have always warned him about how heavy your food is such as Paula’s Sugared Rose Parade Layer Cake and more. I like you but I wish you would have come out of the closet before now, it's been hard changing your recipes for him to be healthy because I don't want them to follow me. at 68 I now am more cautious about my eating and my family, but with a change in my eating and losing a few pounds God has helped me keep my pledge and now I have conquered diabetes and my hope for you and other is the same but just Be Real.

I don't have a food processor so...... I just use a cutter to cut in the butter. I do everything the old-fashioned way
lol I don't even own a mixer! Love you Paula!

Paula, I received one of your 9 x 13 baking dishes in the beautiful robin's egg blue. I love it!!! only problem is, none of my carriers will hold it. I have a couple that are for 9 x 13 pans but your pan has the fluted edge and wont fit in my carrier. Do you know of anyone that carries holders that would work for me? thank you so much. I love trying your recipes too, have had some really good turnouts.
