Recipe Courtesy of Paula DeenServings: 5 dozen truffles
Prep Time: 3 hours 45 min
Difficulty: Easy
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup semisweet mini chocolate morsels
1 cup finely chopped pecans
1 1/2 lb chocolate bark candy coating, melted
In a large bowl cream butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. Add vanilla. Gradually beat in flour and add milk. Add chocolate morsels and pecans, mixing well. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on waxed paper; chill 2 hours.
*Cook’s Note: Since the dough is sticky, roll your fingers into flour. This will make it easier to roll.
Melt chocolate bark candy coating in a double boiler. Using 2 forks, dip cookie balls into candy coating to cover. Place on waxed paper and chill to set. Store in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Has anyone tried to freeze the cookie dough or the truffles themselves? If so for how long? I'm trying to give these as a gift and I'd like to go ahead and make them for Cristmas.

I loved the truffles! Also I made cookies out of the rest of the dough and they were good as well!

Great recipe! Everyone in the office loved them. Make sure your dough is very well chilled before coating them in chocolate. I decorated mine with sprinkles and used a Baker's block chocolate bar to coat them. Worked perfectly!

What is chocolate bark candy coating? Is there someplace local where I can purchase this? Or, is there something I can use as a substitute? If not, where online can I purchase this? Thanks. Donna

LOVED this with the following changes: I doubled recipe BUT only added enough of second can of milk to enable stand mixer to mix dough (about 1" or less off top of can). I also added 1 extra teaspoon vanilla. There was no lacking of sweetness to the dough and it was not sticky at all to work with. I dipped them in a two part process. Dipped bottoms, let harden, then dipped the tops. Easier to manage (for me) than using forks. Highly recommend. Rave reviews!

what is chocolate bark candy coating?
By Kathy Mason on December 19, 2011
What a treat! LOVE these! Any chocolate lover will enjoy! I used a high quality chocolate, instead of the bark. I also refrigerated overnight, before rolling into balls and did not have to flour my hands, it worked up like regular cookie dough. I HIGHLY recommend these!

Dear Ms. Paula, I am on 28 years old and my fiance and I have a 4yr. old daughter I like to eat homecooked meals they would rather have anything out of a box I love to cook but do not really know how to shop so that I can make good homecooked meals every night so that they can know what homecooking is all about so can you give me some basic items to pick up at the grocery so that I am not forced to buy boxed or frozen food. P.S. My grandmother and I live by your show your magazines and everything that you do.

Seriously. Made these for Father's Day and threw them away. Not a good substitute for chocolate chip cookie dough. Texture is not right, too sweet, and lacking a rich cookie dough taste.

Yum Yum Yum! I made these as part of our dessert for my son's birthday party. Our guests asked me where I bought them from. When I said I made them, they wondered where I got the cookie dough from... They were very well received - DELICIOUS! What a great treat! Thank you Paula for ANOTHER great recipe! You're awesome!
