Servings: About 10 churros
Difficulty: Easy
Vegetable oil, for deep frying
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 stick butter
1 cup water
2 teaspoons sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 orange, zested
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 eggs
Fill a deep-fryer or large Dutch oven halfway with vegetable oil and heat to 350 degrees F.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a large shallow bowl, set aside.
Combine the butter, water and sugar in a large saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Once it has come to a boil, lower to a medium heat and add the flour, orange zest and nutmeg, stirring constantly until it comes away from the pan and it forms a ball. Transfer dough to a bowl and use an electric mixer to help cool it off. At this point you can whisk in the eggs, 1 at a time, until it becomes a smooth batter. Transfer the mixture into a large piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Working in batches, carefully pipe 4-inch long ribbons directly into the hot oil to fry. Fry until golden, turning if necessary, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove with tongs and drain on paper towels. Transfer the churros into the sugar/cinnamon mixture and toss to coat. Serve immediately while still warm.

Hi Paula, I want you to know how much I love you, you remind me of my Mother so much, she passed away in 1992. Your laugh, your smile, your dispositionand the way you have fun with your boys or whom ever you are with in the kitchen, or anytime. My Mother was my bestfriend & she taught me how to cook when I was 5 years old. We had so much fun in the kitchen, during Holidays, she would have my Aunt, my sisters & I, my cousins, and she would give us certain things to do in the kitchen to make everything come together, nut. what I remember most is "Laughing & her making it so much fun cooking. She at times looked a lot like you, her shape & build, her hands, and her personality. When I watch you it's like watching her as if she were here. I am on Disability and I don't get enough to be able to go on a vacation, but I would more than anything in this world to one day come to meet you in person, for some reason I ever get that chance!!!! They say everyone has a double and I think you are hers. I am Diabetic as well, so keep healthy & you are looking great, I'll do the same & I'm praying that I 'll one day get a chance to meet you & hopefully even get to cook with you, I have some super recipes to share you, I've not seen anyone make on TV yet. I hope you actually get to read this, PS. My mom had a cousin that had or has a Restaurant in Georgia somewhere, so great cooks must run in our family, I'd love to just sit down & talk & visit. With all my Love!!!, Debbie Pygott

These look really good, and my children will love them. They buy them in school on occasion. I hope you read these comments, because I do have a question, although it doesn't actually pertain to the recipe; I noted on this particular episode of Paula's Home Cooking, that you have a set of beautiful dishes, including a cake plate and serving dishes and goblets. They appear to be handpainted. Can you tell me where I can find them, please? I am most interested in the beautiful cake plate. Thanks.
