A young lady brought this decadent Chocolate Pecan pie to Thanksgiving dinner. it is so wondeful that I plan to make it for Christmas and for some friends. There is just the lightest taste of bourbon. Thank you Paula for this great recipe. Donna Casoni

The bourbon in the pie.....The alcohol evaporates from the heat of the oven..All you have left the the flavor of the bourbon...NO...alcohol.....

This was my first (and now probably last time) baking a pie. I figured it wouldn't be that difficult, I bake cookies, muffins and cupcakes all the time... I was wrong. Actually mixing everything together, easy. I used whiskey instead of bourbon. Then it came time to pour the sweet goop into the pecan filled crust, it overflowed. So apparently you need a deep dish 9 inch pie crust. Then I put it in the over where it continues to bubble and overflow. I baked for the suggested time, not even close to being done. So I'm trying an additional 20 minutes and see where I'm at. All in all, I'm never baking another pie.

This recipe looks great. Since it calls for using only 2 tbsp of bourbon, can this be substituted with dark rum (w/c I already have). No one drinks bourbon at home since its only me & my husband. Love wtaching you, Bobby & Jamie when your show was on Food Network. Have boycotted it and am not watching any of their shows anymore. Very glad to see you on facebook though. More power to you and take care. Arlene

I was excited to see this recipe however I don't do alcohol. Is there something that would substitute for the bourbon in the recipe?

Just wondering if anyone knows what to substitute the bourbon with that would be non-alcoholic. Can you just leave out the bourbon?

Paula, My son requested a pecan pie for his birthday this year. Of course, I naturally decided to search Paula Deen's website for a traditional southern classic! For a special touch I added Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate and Makers' Mark Bourbon(my mom was from Kentucky!). It was extremely easy to make. The chocolate along with a slight hint of bourbon gave the pie a special southern touch. The whole family raved about this pie and my son was very pleased with his choice. Thanks for sharing and helping make my son's birthday special, Paula!
