Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

4 teaspoons butter

3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 (15-ounce) package refrigerated rolled pie crust
2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spray a large sheet tray with nonstick spray.
Heat the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until melted.  Add the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Cook, over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft, 10 – 15 minutes. Remove from the heat; let the filling cool 15 minutes.

Cut the pie crust roll into 8 (11/4-inch) pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a 5-inch round.  Spoon 2 tablespoons filling slightly off center of each round. Fold each round over the filling to make a half-moon shape. Seal by pressing the edges with the tines of a fork. Prick the top of each pie two or three times to vent. Bake until golden, about 20 minutes. A little of the filling may bubble out. Cool on the baking sheet on a rack 5 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar while still warm.  Serve warm or at room temperature.

Love the recipes on the website, love the information on the website. Went to your brother's restaurant in Savannah and it was great. Couldn't get in Lady & Sons, will try again later. Have hated the way you have been treated by the Food Network and your other sponsors. The press always makes things worse than they really are just to have something to say.

I tried these yesterday with the help of my husband they turned out great.. we don't need a large apple pie for just the two of us.. I plan on freezing at least half for future use.. we are going to try with cherries as my husband just loves cherry pie and maybe peach when the new season comes. Thanks for doing this I just love your Mom and now you and your brother are among our favorites as well. Bless you all

I absolutely love your lighter recipes!!! I have printed out several and am looking forward to making each one of them. As I was printed them out, I noticed something missing on the printed versions -the nutritional information. I am now writing that information on each recipe. Do you know what I might being doing incorrectly? My dad has passed on now, but he used to experiment. The kitchen all of the time; one of my favorite things in this world was his fried apple pies. I can't wait to go to the grocery store and get the proper ingredients. I do have any question; I was watching Bobbie's show last night a I think I heard him say he added some chopped pecan bits into his whole wheat crust, but I can't find that recipe. The one that I did find didn't list the nutritional information either. I look forward to all of the Deen's shows on the Cooking Channel!!!!!!!! Y'all ARE AWESOME!!!!!! Thank You. God Bless you.

Thank you so much for this lighter recipe. It sounds wonderful. I can eat things that are baked, but I can not eat anything that is fried. Looking forward to make this recipe in the near future, it's much healthier. Keep up the great work converting recipes to "lighter" recipes.

I too am from the South (AL) and love the Southern Foods. As we get older we find too much butter, too much seasoning can add pounds to the old waist line. I am so glad both you Bobby and Jamie are finally adding recipes for the lighter side. Now your Mother's cooking is absolutely wonderful and wish we could still eat everything without worrying about the waist line, but there comes a time in our life when we have to start cutting some of the carbs/fats out of our diet. Keep sending the "Lighter" recipes to us devoted fans of the "Dean Brothers"!

It is nice to see recepies on the lighter side that will fit more easily into meals and deserts for us individuals on Weight Watchers. Thank you Bobby. This gives us more flexability to still enjoy Paula's dishes too, in moderation.

First and foremost love you Ms. Paula and Sons.

My dad lives in Ocala Fl and I’m in NJ and we both watch your shows and compare favorite recipes.  When I visit with him I always try to print some new recipes we can cook together.

Can use a recipe for a lighter version of Mac & Cheese.  Thank you and continued success to you all until I come visit you in Savannah - Best wishes from NJ to you…......Cari Feliciano

My family loves apple pie in any shape.
My tip is to brush the top of crust with milk
then sprinkle with sugar before baking.  Makes
a great presentation, and fewer caloeies and less waste than using an egg .

I love watching you and Jamie anytime you’re on TV!

what is 11/4 inch?

Love fried apple pies.  Our little church used to make them as a fund raiser.  Cook apples as Bobby did for his recipe but use the regular canned biscuits as crust.  Roll out biscuit add filling and fold biscuit over and cremp with a fork. (Like a half moon). Cook in deep fryer turning once.  Golden Brown when done.  Remove from grease and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.  Everyone loves these.
