Barbecue Meatloaf Barbecue Meatloaf

Servings: 6 servings
Cook Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 cup fresh bread crumbs
1 onion, diced
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 (8-ounce) cans tomato sauce
3 tablespoons vinegar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup water, to thin sauce if necessary

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix together the beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, pepper, and 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce. Form this mixture into a loaf and place it in a shallow pan. Stir together the remaining tomato sauce, vinegar, sugar, mustard, Worcestershire and the water (if too thick). Pour this sauce over the meatloaf. Bake for 1 hour, basting every 15 minutes with the pan juices.

Cook’s Note: Try serving as a sandwich with mayonnaise.

Been making this for decades. Got it from my mother-in-law, Mary Wilson from Kings Mountain NC. It was called Dutch meatloaf.

Dear Paula, I recieved a phone call from you June 30 and I don't think you heard me and you hung up. Amazon I believe will sell your pots and pans since Walmart, JCPenny won't. Also Home Depot. I want to boycot these places of businessess now. It is ridiculous. When You are sad you can pray to Jesus. I feel his spirit now from head to toe as I write you this note. Love, Nora Cain

I have made this many times and it is nothing short of awesome. I double the amount of sauce. My family loves the tangy gravy.

I have made this at least 10 times. the best meat loaf ever! I just cut the onion amount in half though, it was too much. My husband keeps asking me for the recipe so he can give it to his family, I told him Hell no,let them keep making their crappy meatloaf!

Mmmmmm. So good. Brings out your inner glutton. Don't know if I prefer on night number one with some good veggies, or as a lip smackin' good sandwich on day 2. It doesn't last til day 3. Made this recipe several times and it never disappoints. Comfort food at it's finest!

This is my family's favorite meatloaf recipe. I saw Paula make it on her show with her boys a couple of years ago. It looked delicious and then the boys made sandwiches with it. I tried it and it is now a favorite meal when my kids come home for dinner. It truly makes an awesome meatloaf sandwich, but don't skimp on the mayo. I'm visiting in England and was away from my recipes and my Lady and Sons cookbook, so I looked it up on the web and was pleasantly surprised it was sent to my facebook page. Thanks Paula!

Made this tonight for dinner.. oh my goodness, such a treat! I used 93/7 lean ground beef and it did really well! I used a little less bread crumbs, a little more tomato sauce and baked it in a metal loaf pan (because I used the leaner hamburger). Thank you Paula! This is deffinately a keeper, nice twist on the classic. I also did one of the Garlic Mashed Potato sides as well. Quite yummy!
