Apple Mixture:
10 cups apples, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon lemon zest
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup golden raisins
Topping Mixture:
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
1 1/2 cups oats
2 tablespoon lemon zest
1-tablespoon cinnamon
1-teaspoon nutmeg
1-teaspoon cardamom Vegetable oil or cooking spray
Combine all ingredients for apple mixture in a bowl.
In another bowl, cut the butter into the flour and stir in remaining topping ingredients.
Spray interior of camp Dutch oven with cooking spray or wipe with vegetable oil. Spread apple mixture in bottom of camp oven. Top with topping mixture. Bake at 350 degrees by placing 8 coals under and 16 on lid. Continue cooking until apples are cooked and topping is brown. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

I have been following you for years and am a "Southern" girl at heart...I just love all you do and all of your down-home cooking! Tonight I was looking for a recipe to make a berry cobbler and I adjusted this recipe just a smidge and cooked it in a glass 9x13 @ 350 for 45 min and it was a HIT with my 5 young boys and my wonderful husband!!!! Thank you for all you do! I just love watching and DVR'ing your show so that I can watch it when I have a free moment...I only DVR a few things as I have almost no time for television as it is....your show is a MUST for me for helping me FILL my growing boys

Hey Paula... What if you don't have a dutch oven an you only have a regular baking pan an a regular oven, what would be the baking degree's an time as in how long would you leave it in the oven?

Wonderful! The best apple crisp I've ever made(and I've tried many different recipes)! I also added cinnamon to the apple mixture and cut way down on the amount of lemon zest.
