Servings: 6-8 servings
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 45 min
Difficulty: Easy
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 14 1/2-ounce can stewed tomatoes
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
2 6-ounce cans tomato paste
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
Brown the beef in a large, heavy bottomed pot, then drain off the fat. Add the onion, green pepper and garlic and saute until the onion is tender, about 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste, tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes, 1 cup water and seasonings. Simmer for 30 minutes. Let cool. The sauce will keep for several days covered and refrigerated.
Serve with spaghetti or your favorite pasta.
This is without a doubt the absolute best sauce I've ever tasted. I am new to the kitchen and was extremely pleased at how easy it was to put together - even my boyfriend was super impressed at how great it tasted!! Thanks Paula for making me look like a pro! ![]()

This is an awesome recipe and I will be making it again. Very easy for a novice kitchen tinkerer like my self and tastes great. I did add mushrooms and I used low sodium Worcestershire sauce but followed the directions exactly other than that. I do think that next time I will use a Vidilia onion and one slightly smaller, also a little less garlic. Over all great meal and since I am the only one in the house that eats things other than red meat I now have my Lunch for the next week. Thank you for putting this recipe on here and sharing it. Now I need a desert to go with it.Oh and I love Savannah.

I have an extremely picky 13 year old son and have tried several spaghetti sauces. He LOVED this sauce! It was the best spaghetti ever and I highly recommend it. Finally the search for the perfect sauce is over!

I love Paula Dean and would like to use more of her recipes. Slowly I am learning the network and will be able to do so. Where is the least expensive place I can find Paula Dean's CookWear. Wanda Tedder

Followed this exactly except I used ground turkey in place of beef and I sauted my veggies in a little bit of white cooking wine before adding the turkey back in. It was DE-LISH! Will make again!

I fixed this sauce today and it may be the best spaghetti sauce I have ever made in my 36 years of marriage! My husband thought I ran to our favorite Italian restaurant and bought their sauce! A definite keeper! I did omit the stewed tomatoes and tomato paste and used extra tomato sauce but turned out terrific.

I've made this MANY times over the past few years. It's delicious and easy! I double the recipe for large family gatherings. You can use diced or crushed tomatoes instead of the stewed tomatoes. For a little sweeter sauce, increase the sugar by 1 to 2 tablespoons. Also, I use frozen seasoning blend (onions, bell pepper and celery) instead of going to the trouble to chop fresh veggies. Enjoy!
