A Dinner for SAFE Shelter

A Dinner for SAFE Shelter

By Jonathan Able

Doing good things just feels right, and when you can have fun while doing it- well, that’s even better!

Savannah is home to a wonderful non-profit shelter, better known as the S.A.F.E. Shelter. They opened their doors in 1979 with a pledge to help families and victims escape domestic and intimate partner violence. A United Way Agency, the shelter is certified by the State of Georgia and has aided thousands over the years.

Unfortunately, the organization is having substantial problems with their central heating and air. Their units are aged and some are altogether non-functioning. What sounds like a simple problem to fix is actually quite costly and Savannah’s climate in the summer months is anything but mild.

When Paula and Michael learned of the problems S.A.F.E. Shelter was having problems, they felt compelled to help. On October 14th, 2010 Paula and Michael are hosting an intimate dinner in their home to help raise money that will aid in rebuilding the shelter’s central heating and air system.

In true Paula Deen fashion though, the evening promises to be a memorable one! She’ll be cooking up a storm in her kitchen with 12 giving individuals and dishing out some love to help save S.A.F.E. Shelter’s residents from the last of the summer months and the coming winter.

If you would like to donate individually or want more information about the S.A.F.E. Shelter and domestic and intimate partner violence, visit their website, www.safeshelter.org.

This Just In! Due to an overwhelming response, we have added an additional benefit dinner! A second evening of cooking with Paula and Michael is now available on Friday, October 15. We are keeping a waiting list to ensure as many people as possible are able to attend the dinner.
