Y’all know that I love all of my friends just as if they’re family. That’s why I was so especially moved when my dear friend Gus Arrendale, president of Springer Mountain Farms, received such a prestigious award from the American Humane Association!
On October 5th, 2013, the AHA presented Gus with the National Humanitarian Medal, which is awarded to visionary leaders whose actions reflect the essential values of compassion, caring and hope. This honor is so meaningful, because Springer Mountain Farms has been with the program since the very beginning in 2001, and was the first poultry producer to bear the American Humane Certified seal of approval. Since then, they’ve strived to educate fellow producers, customers and consumers about the benefits of animal welfare audits and human certification.
If y’all want to tune in, you can watch the awards presentation on the Hero Dog Awards on the Hallmark Channel on October 30th. Check your local listings for times; I know I’ll be watching!
