What do you get when you get a couple head-over-heels in love, a handful of their closest friends and family, Paula Deen’s house, and a little touch of fabulous Southern charm?
An engagement party – Deen-style no less!
Sarah, who has been a part of Paula’s team for years, recently got engaged to her now-fiance, Ben. As a congratulatory gesture, Paula, who treats her entire team like family, wanted to throw the two lovebirds an engagement shower to be remembered!

To get the shindig underway, Paula and I enlisted the help of my friends at Reveal Event Style. Together, we decided on a very Savannah-centric theme: a traditional low country boil.
Here are some takeaways from the party!
Flowers add a welcoming feeling that will put your guests at ease.
Fresh Cut Flowers Make it Friendly
There’s really nothing more stunning than a bouquet of freshly cut hydrangeas (and it doesn’t hurt that they’re Paula’s favorite flower). Abby, Jennifer, and Catherine, the girls at Reveal Event Style, and I called them a “magnificent statement of summer”! They were a beautiful centerpiece in Paula’s foyer as Sarah’s and Ben’s guests arrived into the home. Hydrangeas are also perfect to transition your party from daytime to evening.
Turn Flowers into Art!
The party took place on Paula’s back patio, which overlooks one of Savannah’s coastal waterways. Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House catered a delicious low country boil, and other amazing finger foods, like Paula’s delicious Shore is Good Seafood Dip! For the focal point of the buffet, Abby, Jennifer, and Catherine constructed a gorgeous floral centerpiece out of bamboo from Paula’s yard, and two over-sized vases. We had some lanterns already on Paula’s property, so we hung them from the structure to add a little more drama (and light!).
Paying attention to little details show guests how important they are to you.
It’s All in the Details
The girls found some garden elements around Paula’s house to turn into cutlery vessels. We made the cutlery extra special by bundling individual sets together with some coral-themed napkins and twine. Not only did these pieces make a statement, but they were also a favorite among the guests of the party.
Perfectly Practical Party Favors
If you’ve had a low country boil before, then you know that it’s not a meal for the faint of heart. It’s truly a hands-on kind of meal! The girls at Reveal designed adorable burlap bibs for Sarah and Ben to wear, so that they wouldn’t have to worry about ruining their party clothes. Paper replicas were made for the guests, so that everyone could enjoy the bounty of food that was provided. Not only were these “favors” fun, but they were also smart!
Save Room for Dessert!
I contacted one of my favorite Savannah bakeries, Two Smart Cookies, to come up with something sweet for the bride-and-groom-to-be. They came up with these delicious monogrammed cookies in the shapes of weddings dresses, cakes, and hearts. Sarah’s and Ben’s guests enjoyed being able to grab a cookie and enjoy it while socializing with others at the same time.
The most important part about planning any party is to make sure to have fun! The happy couple was able to relax and get the most out of their event, while meeting and greeting everyone that came in their honor.
