Put a twist to your holiday decor with this festive floral arrangement. Our friends at Hammond’s Candies in Denver helped turn this whimsical centerpiece into a tasty treat. The handmade confections from Hammond’s are truly works of art.
This unusual mix of flowers and greenery will make spirits bright throughout the holidays.
Here’s what you will need:
Here’s how to get the look:
First, fill your container with water, about two thirds full; be certain your stems will be completely submerged in water.
Next, as you hold your arrangement in one hand, place flowers, greenery and berries into your arrangement. I rotate the cluster in my hand about one quarter of a turn as I add flowers. This keeps the arrangement consistent and balanced. Helpful hint: the more variety in size, shape, color and texture, the more interesting your finished centerpiece will be. I chose carnations, red roses, white hydrangea, hypericum berry, and seeded eucalyptus. If you’re taste is more traditional, I might suggest paper white narcissus, red tulips, magnolia, holly branches and any assortment of fresh evergreen.
Once the arrangement is the desired size and shape, cut all the stems the appropriate length for your container. Add candy canes one at a time by gently inserting into the center of the flower cluster. Keep the candy canes wrapped so they can be enjoyed later by family and guests. You will notice I grouped these together to give a focal point.
Finally, tie the flower cluster so it holds the shape when you place in the container. Butcher’s string or even a rubber band works best.
Drop the arrangement into your container and admire your creation.
Whether your taste is whimsical or traditional, this idea is easy to create and will be a delightful and delicious addition to your holiday table.
Happy holidays and best wishes for a fabulous New Year!
