Savannah Style: A Spring Table for Two

Savannah Style: A Spring Table for Two

By Brandon Branch

Lush and liveable, Savannah Style is not just a look or book, it is a lifestyle. A lifestyle I hope to bring into your home each month as I share a new Savannah Style Tabletop Inspiration with you here on pauladeen.com. Beautiful centerpieces, wonderful mixes of dinnerware, flatware and linens AND a Takeaway Tip or two that will leave you saying “WOW!” All the dining tables in this monthly series will be put together using handed down family treasures from the butlers pantries of our Paula Deen staff members as well as Paula’s own junkin’ finds. Add flowers from the garden and my hyperbolic fairy dust for a monthly tabletop inspiration…Savannah Style.

Savannah Style: A Spring Table For Two

Paula’s cousin, Johnnie Gabriel, is in town from Marietta, Georgia and Paula wanted to have a girls’ luncheon for just the two of them. She wanted the table to be lush and “girly”.  Johnnie has been so busy working on her new cookbook that Paula thought she needed some special time to just sit down and giggle. So, I sat a Spring Table for Two near the French doors to capture the warmth of the sun on this cool Savannah April afternoon. Here are the ingredients I used:

China:
Paula has a beautiful collection of Vintage Jadeite and I wanted to show it off here. The pale green says Spring to me. The bowl in this photo was given to Paula by Johnnie. It was Johnnies grandmother’s dish and it means the world to Paula. The cupcakes are Paula’s Bunny Cupcakes...without the bunny decoration!

Glasses and linen:
The table linen is a remnant I found in Paula’s linen closet. It adds a little French charm don’t you think? I just snipped the frayed edges and it was perfect. The sweet green polka dot glasses are from the 1950’s and were found in the butler’s pantry of Paula’s friend, Lynn Rahn. The pink juice glasses are also from the same era and are Paula’s own. I used vintage handkerchiefs for napkins. The flatware is Paula’s own and has wonderful polished Alabaster handles.

Florals:
I am in love with this arrangement. Both Paula and Johnnie gushed over it. It’s such a happy arrangement and just makes me smile. I used beautiful layers of spring flowers. Pink French tulips, deep pink triple tulips, champagne colored roses and daffodils picked from Paula’s garden. Don’t skimp on the flowers, even on a table just for two. This is part of my Savannah Style way of life…making everything lush and livable.

Take Away Tip:
Think outside the vase for your flower arrangements. Use something unexpected. Since Paula and Johnnie are both fantastic cooks, I used one of Paula’s copper saucepans as my vase! The beautiful copper color looks amazing with the color pallet of this Spring Table for Two. Best thing…since it had two handles, it was easy to carry!
