Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifle Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifle

A lovely desert that’s as visually appealing as it is flavorful.

Servings: 20 servings
Prep Time: 9 hours 30 min
Cook Time: 30 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1   12-ounce carton Cool Whip
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 teaspoon ground cardamom or cinnamon
1   30-ounce can pumpkin pie filling
1   5.1-ounce package cook-and-serve vanilla pudding mix
2   14-ounce packages gingerbread mix
1/2 cup gingersnaps (optional)

Directions

Bake the gingerbread according to the package directions; cool completely.  Meanwhile, prepare the pudding and set aside to cool.  Stir the pumpkin pie filling, sugar, and cardamom into the pudding.  Crumble 1 batch of gingerbread into the bottom of a large, clear bowl.  Pour 1/2 of the pudding mixture over the gingerbread, then add a layer of whipped cream.  Repeat with the remaining gingerbread, pudding, and whipped cream.  Sprinkle of the top with crushed gingersnaps if desired.  Refrigerate overnight. Trifle can be layered in a punch bowl.

Paula is so right; it's so easy, I've made this for two thanksgivings and am back since I misplaced the recipe. I have used just the ginger snaps though (short of time) instead of the gingerbread, sorry Paula. But we all love it even my younger grandchildren.

Paula is so right; this is really easy and nice to have ready the day before a dinner. I,ve made this for two thanksgivings but I'm back here since I misplaced the recipe. You'll like it so much though I have made it without the gingerbread (short of time) and just used the gingersnaps, sorry Paula. Anyway, love this!!!!! and so do my young grandchildren.

I saw an episode w/ you making changes to traditional Thanksgiving dishes at least a few years ago. I thought this recipe looked so fabulous, especially considering my love of pumpkin pie but lack of education in making pie. It has been SUCH a big hit with the family that I have now made it every year since! It looks so pretty in the trifle dish & is so easy to assemble/prepare/enjoy! I also read a suggestion somewhere to add just a touch of Bailey's to the cool whip layer - & this is delicious, as well!

I love this receipt, I do a slight twist, instead of using Ginger bread mix. I use Spice cake & sub Pumpkin for the applesauce in the receipt for applesauce cake. It is a very festive cake!!
