Servings: 8-10 servings
Prep Time: 8 minutes
Cook Time: 25-30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1 teaspoon each dried basil, cumin, and dried oregano
Salt and pepper
3 cup canned crushed tomatoes
2 lb lean ground beef
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
2 cup chopped onion
2 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 lb box elbow macaroni
2-3 cup grated cheddar cheese

Directions

Cook the macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside. Heat the oil in a skillet; add the peppers, onion, and garlic, and saute until soft. Add the ground beef and saute until browned. Add the tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste, and the basil, cumin, and oregano. In a large bowl, combine the macaroni and the beef mixture. Spread this mixture into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Top with the cheese and bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is lightly browned and bubbly.

Cook’s Note: Ground turkey or chicken can be used in place of beef, if desired.

This recipe sounds really good, perhaps if there are any like this for people like me that cannot consume any kind of dairy product as our bodies can not handle such stuff it would be wonderful to know. Thanks.

I loved this recipe!!! My grandma used to make something like this when I was a little girl and we never got the recipe. This is the first time I have come this close to hers and it is delicious. I added chopped celery to the saute and before placing in the oven and after removing, I added parmesan cheese. My mouth is just watering thinking about it...yummy dish!!!!

Great texture and the ingredients are a good mix- the only problem is it needs more flavor! I suggest adding some Heinz 57 sauce, hot sauce or any kind of spicing you want to add some zest to it- otherwise it is just kind of bland.

Not a hit at our house. It was easy enough to make but tasted bland. I won't be making this again. This is probably one of the first recipes that we didn't care for.

This was a homerun hit with my son!!! Easy to make, and actually better than my macaroni goulash that I make. Thank you!

Sometimes if your pasta is not cooked all the way it will soak up liquid in your casserole and make it dry.

I tried this recipe, and it was okay. My husband mentioned it first, but I agreed - it was missing something. I didn't have any problems with the pasta being dry. I seriously wished I had cut the recipe in half, because now I have a lot left over. Oh well - on to the next recipe.

I LOVE casseroles, but I often find that they are 'missing' something. I went at this recipe with gusto. I upped the spices on this recipe A LOT. I used 2lbs of ground beef and a large bag of elbow macaroni. To counter that- I used 2 tablespoons of basil, 2 tablespoons of cumin, 2 tablespoons of chipotle chili powder and a tablespoon of oregano. I also added a pinch of rosemary and doubled the garlic. This recipe was FABULOUS!!! To all the people who had their pasta come out dry, I wonder if you drained the grease after you browned the beef? It doesn't say drain, nad so I left the grease in there. My pasta was definitely NOT dry.
