Servings: 8-10 servings
Prep Time: 8 minutes
Cook Time: 25-30 minutes

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1 teaspoon each dried basil, cumin, and dried oregano
Salt and pepper
3 cup canned crushed tomatoes
2 lb lean ground beef
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
2 cup chopped onion
2 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 lb box elbow macaroni
2-3 cup grated cheddar cheese

Directions

Cook the macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside. Heat the oil in a skillet; add the peppers, onion, and garlic, and saute until soft. Add the ground beef and saute until browned. Add the tomatoes, salt and pepper to taste, and the basil, cumin, and oregano. In a large bowl, combine the macaroni and the beef mixture. This recipe is one of our favorites, (mine when I'm tired) but I also add 1 tsp. of chili powder and 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper. We call it Mexican Spaghetti, my mom called it Johnny Marsetti. (I think it's a name for it in Ohio.) My mom added a can of Cream of Mushroom soup too.

My kids won't eat the chopped green bell pepper but will eat the same amount of jalopeno pepper chopped in the dish. Go figure! I did add more cumin since we are from the SW.

I used to make something similar this all the time, I never had those seasonings though, just used garlic and no bell peppers. I am gonna try it your way, I loved it when I made it but yours sounds even better. Will get back to you

I have made this several times since watching you make it on TV and it's full of hearty flavor. My only addition was some fresh thyme, rosemary and 1/4 cup of finely grated Pecorino Romano. Honestly I don't know where the 8 to 10 servings went. The two of us eat this for dinner two nights in a row. The leftovers are even more delicious then the first night.
