We have Paula's sauces at Wal-Mart, but I didn't want to drive that far. So, I used A-1 steak sauce and a good merlot wine and it was delicious! I subbed carrots for mushrooms, bc I don't like mushrooms. I also threw in 5 large bay leaves. This dish was WONDERFUL!

Dear Paula; I love your show and your enthusiastic personality!! But most of all, I enjoy watching you cooking with your big boys smile You have such a good heart, and you love your family very much!!! I am a big fan of your delicious dishes, but not so much of the bakery side. My parents didn't taught us to eat sugar as much because of their diabetes. But I learned a lot of cooking tips from you! THANK you so much for putting your heart and soul into cooking! I am the same way...and my husband makes me laugh when he say that I should have my own show:)) He is the biggest fan I ever had!!! By the way....I saw your picture in some magazine lately....do you lost weight? If so....you look fantastic and sexy! ahaa! girl!! With great admiration, Martha Wolgemuth

Makes it a little difficult for us older folks to prepare any of these recipes, since most of them only offer a purchased sauce thru Paula.

Yummy. It tasted like coq au vin but with beef instead of chicken. Try it over egg noodles or mashed potatoes!

OH my Lord, what a hoot, I needed that gut buster, I am barried in snow in Marion, Ohio and other than the TV my computer world and looking up some good old Paula Dean winter time meals to make the laugh from this colum was a welcome cheer I must say I never expected the joy and boy can I relate.  I have tried meany a day to substitue with grave error. When you want to serve the best do it like the best.  Time and prep is what it is all about. Your reward comes in the end if you do. That is what I think WWPD would say. All smiles from Tina Mae Aldridge your fan in Marion, Ohio
