When I was a young man we lived way out beyond electricity and plumbing, in the forest of Warehauser in the cascades foothill thirty or so miles from Mount Raineer we'd get quite a few feet of snow and it is so nice to know so many other enjoyed snow ice with vanilla. I was nine years old then I really miss the memories the coldness and harsh reality of no plumbing I don't miss.

We use a very old family recipe handed down through generations. It goes like this: 1 large can pet cream, 2 eggs, 1 3/4 cup sugar & 2 Tablespoons vanilla. Blend all ingredients together in a large bowl and add snow. It has worked for me for 62 years. Delicious East Tennessee Snow Cream!!

This is kinda how we make it except that we add sugar and use evaporated milk. We don't measure anything ...we just get a big bowl of snow and add the ingredients until it taste good. I have to say, I like the snow cream a lot better than I like the snow....I'm ready to head south!!!

Didn't grow up in a snowy region and I've never done this! I've heard of catching snowflakes on your tongue but I never thought of using it for "ice cream". This may sound silly but what's the best way to get clean snow for this purpose?
By mamaflo on January 10, 2011
The only thing missing from the recipe (in my opinion) is the FOOD COLORING! Choosing the color of the snow cream was always the hardest part. At 8 I could not be convinced that it tasted the same whether red or green or blue. My bowl had to be RED!

There is nothing better than getting the family together to make snow cream! In Tennessee, most people including myself, always use evaporated milk, sugar, and vanilla flavoring mixed with a lot of snow. I always have kept the ingredients at my work place, along with a large bowl, so if it happened to snow while at work, my co-workers and I could run outside on break or at lunch and make a big batch to have while working. It is such a treat!!!! Paula, we have snow in West Tennessee at the moment, I have never used the condensed milk, but today, I am going to give it a try! Sounds delish!

I have never used condensed milk in snow ice cream until today. It was AWESOME. If you haven't tried it with condensed milk I highly recommend it. Thanks Paula for the GREAT recipe.
