Recipe Courtesy of Paula Deen Cook Time: 10 min
Difficulty: Easy
Oil, for frying
2 cans large buttermilk biscuits
1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
1/4 cup sugar, plus more for dusting
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon plus more for dusting
Flour, for rolling
Whipped cream, for garnish, optional
Confectioners’ sugar, for garnish, optional
Pour the oil into a large cast iron skillet about 1/2-inch up the sides and heat to about 350 degrees F.
Remove biscuits from cans, flour them and roll each 1 out to a 5-inch round. Place 1 heaping tablespoon of fruit filling on a round leaving a 1/2-inch edge all around. Place another rolled out round on top of the filling, pressing around the edges to seal. You should dip your fingers in water and wipe around the edge of the bottom biscuit to enable it to stick to the top biscuit. Dip end of dinner fork in flour and press continuously around edge to insure a proper seal. Repeat with remaining biscuits. Makes 8 or 10 pies depending on the amount in your biscuit can. Place 3 or 4 of the pies in the preheated cast iron skillet. Fry for about 2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Transfer to paper towels to drain and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar while still hot. Serve with whipped cream and confectioners’ sugar, if desired.

I 2nd that I have type II diabetes and just as Paula say's you eat in moderation, we all do not eat like this EVERY day who could lol. Keep going on Paula.. Love You
By Sharon on February 07, 2012
Hey Annie, are you diabetic? I am you putz, and I have been for 15 years. You know what? BUTTER doesn't turn into sugar during metabolism, and neither does bacon. Diabetics can have all the butter they want, and it won't affect their blood sugar. Eat the whole damn STICK, and you'll test the same as if you ate nothing. Only sugar and starches are problems for diabetics, Ms. Know Nothing, and if you keep your sugar under control, you CAN have a treat once in awhile. No one said you gotta eat the whole plate of these things. If you've been 'good' all day, one of these for dessert isn't the end of the world. Who are YOU to decide what others can and can't eat? Take your god complex and shove it. No one made you the food gestapo.

Hey Annie how about you get a life and lesve your negative comments to yourself. Last time i checked Paula's recipes didnt come with a gun and an ultimatum. If you dont like her food or choose not to make it dont. Simple. And for your extreme last part of your comment, i hope you choke on the next bite of your "healthy" food, chalk full of "nutrients" you only know about because it says it on the box you idiot. Its people like you who think salt and pepper are seasoning and your food probably tastes like crap. Are you choking yet? I hope so

Hey Paula, how does it feel to push your unhealthy food recipes onto people when you know you have diabetes? ... What? anything for money you say? If you think those pills can help you all the way with diabetes then keep eating your sticks of butter and leave us alone sooner rather than later.

I'm going to stop using this web site. People rate recipes without having even tried them. This web site should provide a note asking only for reviews of the recipes, not silly comments to Paula or any other comments that don't provide feedback on how the recipes turned-out.

This sounds wonderful, but cannot use cast iron on top of smooth top range. I have a good quality deep fryer,so I think I'm gonna try to cook this recipe in it. What do u think?

Recipe sounds like a good quick dessert. I have a problem. Can't seem to get on right thing to order your new cook book I have tried several times It won't let me in after I leave my name address, etc. Help.

Paula, I am always trying your recipes and I am planning on making this recipe tomorrow; it sounds so delicious, but I am a little confused on the ambiguity of the 1/4 cup sugar. The directions do not mention where the sugar gets added; is it mixed with the pie filling?

You go Girl!!!! Who cares what that chef says about your food being the worst in the world. We who are from the south sure know better. I have never found anything any better, NEVER!!!! I'm from Macon, Ga and my folks were from Macon and Eastman, Ga. I LOVE SOUTHERN FOOD. YOUR BUFET AT THE LADY & SONS IS FANTABULOUS!!!! My favorite food is fried collard greens and cornbread patties. UUUUUMMMMMM GOOD!!! From seeing foods other chef's serve on Food Network I would starve to death as the portions are tiny, tiny, tiny and most I don't reconize what it is. No wonder those uppity people are so stiff and unhappy....they're hungry!!! Keep up the wonderful cooking, love to see Jamie and Bobby, Michael too. Love to see more of Brooke and Jack. I met you, Jamie and Bobby personally at the restaurant and Jamie and Bobby took my husband and me upstairs to visit you in your work room (with your bookkeeper). What a wonderful treat that was. I still have my Lady & Sons autographed T-shirt to cherish. Thanks again for wonderful time and memories. Love and Hugs, Ouida (weeda)and Ronnie Schall
