Servings: 4 servings
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 45 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

4   large Vidalia onions
4 tablespoon butter
3   beef bouillon cubes
pepper

Directions

Prepare a fire in a charcoal grill or preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Trim and slice from the top of each onion, and peel the onion without cutting off the root end.  Using a potato peeler, cut a small cone shaped section from the center of the onion.  Cut the onion into quarters from the top down, stopping within a half inch of the root end.  Place a bouillon cube in the center of each onion, slip slivers of butter between the sections, and sprinkle with pepper.  Wrap each onion in heavy duty foil and place the onions directly onto the hot coals.  Cook the onions for 45 minutes turning every so often.

To serve, place each onion in individual bowl because the onions will produce a lot of broth, which tastes like French onion soup.

Hello Paula I always enjoy your show. I have looked up many a recipe on your site for baking. I do however have an allergy to eggs, but was wondering if you have a cake recipe that can be made without eggs or if you know of an egg substitute? My younger sister also has an egg allergy and I was wanting to make her a Birthday Cake that was safe for her to eat....oh and lets not forget me eating a slice lol Thank you for your show and your wonderful personality, you always put a smile on my face Take care Christine

My husband and I think these are awesome! I love to see people enjoy their meal and the smile and sounds from my husband, while he ate these onions were a site to behold...he is diabetic so to watch him have such pleasure with his meal...goes right to my heart.

My Husband and I would rather have these than a baked potato with our meal. He is a diabetic and for him it was like heaven...and the smile and noises that he made while eating was music to my ears...Love to see a man who enjoys his meal
