Recipe Courtesy of Paula DeenServings: 6 servings
Cook Time: 30 min
Difficulty: Easy
8 tablespoon (1 stick) butter
1 small bell pepper, sliced thin
1 small onion, sliced thin
Paula Deen’s House Seasoning (to taste)
1/2 cup sour cream
2 cup mashed potatoes
1 1/2 cup grated Cheddar cheese
4 medium potatoes, cooked
6 slices of bacon, cooked crisp
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread mashed potatoes evenly on bottom of casserole dish. Layer sour cream evenly over top. (Each time you add a layer, sprinkle on a little House seasoning.) Saute onion and bell pepper in butter; evenly layer over top of sour cream. Next, layer with 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese. Slice potatoes and layer over cheese until top is completely covered with potatoes. Finally top with remaining 1 cup cheese. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and crumble bacon over top.
Leftover mashed potatoes work wonderfully in this recipe.

SO GOOD! My whole family loves it. The only thing I do different is I add hamburger to it to make it the main dish. Thanks Paula!

Mrs. Deen my mother was born in Al. she has cooked her entire life from the time she was 6 ot 7. You were her favorite person to watch on TV she was trying to launch her own cooking show and had her own seasoning when she took ill and past in April of this year. I was not blessed with her ability to cook I like to cook but can not cook as well. The Holidays Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite times of year house full of people eating and sharing but any way I am going to use your website and a coupe of your recipes to cook this christmas because I havent had the heart to look at her old recipes she has written down just thought I would share. You cook with love like my mother did. There are a lot of chefs that cook and love to cook and their food is amazing and very good but there is something about a chef that cooks with love you can taste the difference. Have a Happy Holiday and God Bless in Loving memory of my mother Barbara

I think of Paula as a Mother. I wish I had been her daughter. She is so Motherly I envy Jamie and Bobbie. I used to live in Texas and my husband got a job in Savannah. I love to cook and wish some day to meet her.

I just "LOVE" Paula and her family. I have watched her since she was working with Gordon going from house to house with her wagon filled of spices and other food items. Everyone says that they' are her biggest find but "I beg to differ" I have been her #1 fan from the very beginning. Paulas is wonderful and I admire how she has come form so much diversity and she kept pushing on with hard work and dedication no matter how hard it was....and believe me it was hard for her and her family, Additionally, I have watched every program that she has created/been on and add to that "road tasted" by her sons. You are the Best Paula Deen, and you are the true American hero in regards to the American Dream of what our country was made of "hard work and perseverance!

The butter is only to saute the peppers and the onions not in the Casserole that is when the casserole gets to buttery..

going to try this Potato recipe it looks good i'm always willing to try new things with my daughter and her family

The recipe does not direct you to pour the butter into the casserole dish. The butter is used on the stovetop to sauté your veggies prior to assembling the casserole. Those complaining of too much butter.... that may be your problem.
