Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding

A new twist on an old favorite.  This banana pudding is delicious and pretty too!

Servings: 12 servings
Prep Time: 30 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1   12-ounce container frozen whipped topping thawed, or equal amount sweetened whip
1   14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1   8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 cup milk
1   5-ounce box instant French vanilla pudding
6-8   bananas, sliced
2   bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies

Directions

Line the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.

In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer.  Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth.  Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture.  Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended.  Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies.  Refrigerate until ready to serve.

I have been making this banana pudding recipe for awhile now and it is AWESOME!!!!! I made it for my husband to take to work once and now the guys at work frequently request it! All I normally get is to lick the bowl after mixing, which allows me to sample the yumminess and yet remain my girlish figure! wink Never fails, my hubby brings home an empty dish! <3 it!!!!

This has been a big hit with the families, I have tried it with the chessman cookies, but when I need to double the batch I make a graham cracker crust and then sprinkle some graham cracker crumbs over the top... I have tried alot of paula's recipes and I would love to be able to share the kitchen with her for just one day and cook right beside her....love you paula....

Paula Deen won't eat margarine because it's one molecule away from plastic but she will eat Cool Whip? It's the same thing. How difficult is it to whip heavy cream for 3 mins these days?

I was going to make this dish but we live in a rural area and it's hard to locate the Chessman cookies here in Brinkley Arkansas I have searched all over and the surrounding area grocery stores no luck on finding these cookies can someone tell what can be used in substitute I don't like vanilla wafers or the Jackson vanilla wafers.

I didn't make this but had it at a New Year's Eve party last night. It was not only beautiful with the Chessman cookies on top but it was delicious. I will definitely be making this myself the next time I make banana pudding.

This is a real family favorite. I'm always asked to bring it for all family functions. My family loves coconut, so I toast up a cup of coconut and add it to the banana layer and also sprinkle some on the top before I put the second layer of cookies. Delicious!!!!!

Last year for Thanksgiving dinner for the family I made this pudding.  It was SOOOOO delicious that I’m making it again this year for Thanksgiving!  smile

By Sandy Peterson-Clauser on November 24, 2010

This is SO-O-O-O good.  I cannot eat bananas, but the taste of the pudding before topping the banana slices is so rich and creamy.  I like to dip the cookies in it and taste the pudding.  My family and everyone else who has tasted it comments that it is the very best they’ve tasted.

By Ruth Barton on November 05, 2010

I love this banana pudding recipe! I made it about 9 years ago when I first saw it on Paulas show. When I wanted to make it again I could not find the recipe anywhere. I am so glad to see it again!! YEAH!

By JP on October 14, 2010

Cindy, you can dip your bananas in lemon juice to keep them from turning dark.  It works for me, hope it does for you too

By Pat on October 01, 2010

Is there anything i can dip the banana slices in to keep them from turning black so quickly. Thanks,Cindy

By Cindy Brown on July 08, 2010

This is by far the BEST banana pudding I’ve ever had. I’m from the south and have had MANY versions of this southern delight, but this one is the best! It is so easy and is a wonderful potluck or picnic dish (just keep refrigerated until serving).  I always get requests for the recipe. This recipe is a family favorite!
