Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake

Either I made this recipe famous, or it made me famous—either way, it tastes great!

Ingredients:

1   (16-ounce) box powdered sugar
3 to 4 tablespoon cocoa powder
1   egg, plus 2 eggs
1   (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1   (18.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
Butter, for greasing pan, plus 16 tablespoons (2 sticks) butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Lightly grease a 13 by 9-inch baking pan. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg, and 8 tablespoons (1 stick) melted butter, and stir until well blended. Pat mixture into prepared pan and set aside. In a stand mixer, or with a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the remaining 2 eggs, and the cocoa powder. Lower the speed of the mixer, and add the powdered sugar. Continue beating until ingredients are well mixed. Slowly add the remaining 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of melted butter, and the vanilla, continuing to beat the mixture until smooth. Stir in nuts with a rubber spatula. Spread filling over cake mixture in pan.

Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the cake; the center should still be a little gooey when finished baking. Let cake partially cool on a wire rack before cutting into pieces.

This cake is awesome. Paula really showed out when she created this one. And I've tried the different variations as well all are home runs. I really enjoy the pineapple gooey as well. Now we need something with coconut!

This is very good. I don't like it as much as the plain butter one, but if you have a chocolate lover, this is the cake for them.

I make this in cupcake tins and bake for 16-18 minutes and everyone loves them!! It makes 24 standard sized cupcakes. I use a cookie dough scoop (1Tbl size) 1 level scoop of both crust and topping comes out exactly right.

I made this to take to the lake for an outing. It was such a great hit that we are having another cook out for Father's Day just so I can make another to share with our friends. Thanks to Paula for her delicious recipes!

This was absolutely fabulous! I made this recipe for a church dinner and it was delicious (did not look as good as Paula's) I also took some to my parents house for a get together and my dad calls it the best brownies ever made! It was so good I could have ate the whole thing by myself. I am making it again this week for a district business meeting.

I visited Lady and Sons for the first time last weekend and was blown away. The food is to die for and the service was the best I had ever had in a restaurant. We even had a waitress serenade my husband and I as we were on our Anniversary. The waitress brought up a taste of this cake and it was the best chocolate cake I had ever had. The bottom was moist like a brownie, the middle was like a creamy mouse/fudge sauce and the top had a thin crust like Creme Brulee. Hopefully I will be able to recreate this desert.

Too good. So rich, it is just perfect. It is just as the name says, chocolatey, gooey, and buttery!
