I was excited to see this recipe however I don't do alcohol. Is there something that would substitute for the bourbon in the recipe?
By Valerie on April 11, 2013
Just wondering if anyone knows what to substitute the bourbon with that would be non-alcoholic. Can you just leave out the bourbon?

I SEEN THIS ON FB. COULD NOT BELIEVE THE ADDED CHOC. POSTED ON FB. MY COUSIN THAT ALSO DOES A LOT OF COOKING, COMMENTED ON MY WALL, 'THAT SHE HAD WON A 'PIE CONTEST' W/CHOC. PECAN PIE!!' OMG!!

Paula, My son requested a pecan pie for his birthday this year. Of course, I naturally decided to search Paula Deen's website for a traditional southern classic! For a special touch I added Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate and Makers' Mark Bourbon(my mom was from Kentucky!). It was extremely easy to make. The chocolate along with a slight hint of bourbon gave the pie a special southern touch. The whole family raved about this pie and my son was very pleased with his choice. Thanks for sharing and helping make my son's birthday special, Paula!

Your site is great easy to find what ever recipe you are looking for. I love to see you with your sons on your show, I think you are great.

Paula, PLEASE, get your own show on a network that shows locally in every town for those of us that can't afford cable. I would LOVE to watch you for an hour. You are the most uplifting and enjoyable cook on tv, far better than Rachael Ray. I can be having the worst day and I catch you on a morning or afternoon show, and my mood just soars. Love you so much! (and all your food too:)

I just LOVE you !!! I just watched your Christmas Food Special. I have been PRAYING for you also about the smoking. I prayed for my baby sister for years and years. Finally she has not smoked for 2 years and 4 months. I would love to be able to come and see you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband and I both had cancer 13 months apart. The Lord took care of us. I am still under the Doctor care but I feel really good ! And all this came from prayer!! Your Friend

Hi Paula,
Saw you today on Dr. Oz.....love to watch you...are you still on the Food Channel ? Either I miss you or you're not on.....they have some terrible cooks on there and keep getting wierd ones......
You need your own show like Rachael Ray....I'd much rather see you that her.....
Love your family....watch Jamie and Bobby whenever they're on, anymore I don't see them on anything either...any your grandson is soooooooooooo cute.....heard you have another one....don't hear too much about that one.....can you please show them both sometimes ? Brooke is beautiful too...both your boys are so handsome and seem so nice.....
Would love to go on the cruise .......maybe sometimes......I bet it would be fun being with you guys....especially if you did any cooking....do you or are you just on vacation ????
Bought one of your OOEY GOOEY BUTTER CAKES at Walmart....it was so delicious......I have your recipe, just haven't tried to make it yet....
I'm souther too, so I do cook a lot like you.....I love my butter too....I can eat it by itself.....LOL.....my daughter calls me Paul Deen.....I put butter in everything.....
But I just have one other thing to say to you.....YOU REALLY NEED TO QUIT SMOKING......if your husband can do it so can you.....and I hope Dr. Oz made you see the light and stop smoking......you want to be around for your kids and grandkids.....I am so glad I never ever smoked.....don't drink either.....just eat butter
and unhealthy foods.....but I'm getting better....I'm trying......my daughter cooks and eats healthy and she preaches to me all the time about it.....so I am trying.....

I used chocolate chips because thats what I had. And the cooking time is much more than 35 min! I had mine cook almost 50 min until set.
By Lynn on November 23, 2011
Hi! I'm making these for Thanksgiving for the first time. But I don't have the bourban. Will it make a difference if its left out?
By Lynn Riddle on November 22, 2011
Mine is currently in the oven and it smells amazing. But, the chocolate pieces are not melting. In the picture above it looks as if the chocolate integrates with the rest of the ingredients, but I was surprised when the recipe did not say to melt the chocolate first, like other chocolate pecan pie recipes. Did everyone else's chocolate melt into a liquid or does it stay in gooey chunks? I used Valrona.

I'd like to substitute Kahlua for the bourbon, would that work?
