I have baked for my dogs before, but yours are the first recipes I actually feel good giving to her. Most other recipes have a lot of fats and sugars in them. Yours are healthier and she is a pain in the rear once I start baking them for her because she knows what I'm making. Thank you so much for these recipes.

I have made this recipe twice, the last time was today. As soon as I took the first batch out of the oven, my two Westies were begging for one. They love these! This recipe will be a staple in our canine diet. Thanks so much!!

These sound great for people, but garlic can be toxic to dogs. I wouldn't chance it.

I haven't made these yet, but I would recommend that other omit the garlic salt/powder from this receipt. Garlic is toxic to pets, so while it make food delicious to humans, it makes it poisonous to dogs.

Our fur babies loved them smile I subbed a couple things ... Garlic powder instead of garlic salt, chicken stock (low sodium) instead of water, 4cheese blend ( didn't have cheddar on hand), olive oil instead of vegetable, and I also used whole wheat flour. Turned out great and makes the kitchen smell good too!

You can adjust any recipe to make it healthier. Change AP flour to Wheat, Br. Rice, Buckwheat, Oat or a combo of them. Use olive oil instead of veg. oil. A little garlic powder instead of garlic salt. Etc.

@Ruth - 2 teaspoons of garlic for 24 treats isn't going to hurt your dog unless you feed them all 24 treats at one time. Garlic (in it's natural form) is used by many holostic vets as ways to keep fleas off dogs. Garlic in small amounts does not harm your dog. Can it kill your dog? Sure, if it gets a hold of an entire head of garlic. For a dog to actually get hemolytic anemia, it would need to eat .5% of its body weight. I have a 65 lb. Lab mix at home so she would need to eat 33 ounces of garlic to harm her (which amounts to around four or five garlic cloves) and since you mentioned onions, she'd need to eat a whole onion to cause that type of anemia. Using 2 tsps. of garlic salt for 24 cookies is perfectly adequate for this recipe. For more info, please check out this link: http://www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/garlic-for-dogs.html

Hi Paula, I love you and your show. I am writing because I read your ingredients in the dog cookies and there shouldn't be garlic in there. Garlic is like the onion as far as dogs go. It causes hemolytic anemia and can be fatal. I know it takes more garlic than onion to cause this but who knows if it builds up in the dogs body or not. I just figure it is best not to feed your dog’s anything that is bad for them. In hemolytic anemia the red blood cells burst and they can't carry oxygen so the dog winds up panting and gasping for breath. Just please pass this on to everyone you know including Rachel Ray. I think she too uses garlic in dog cookies. Merry Christmas Paula! I just think you are the sweetest person on TV.
