Okay, so my friend and I have made this cake twice and both times it did not come out right. The first time we baked it 45 minutes and the center was too done. It was good, just not gooey. The second time we made it, we baked it for 35 minutes and the cake under the center was under done. We put it back into the oven and baked it another 5 minutes but the cake was still undercooked. At 45 minutes, it is no longer gooey. Any suggestions? The cake still comes out great but just not gooey.

Yum this is so good... i think you could add some lemon zest to either of the batters to give it a good zing...

Tried the lighter version. Used a chocolate cake mix and added some cocoa for a "double chocolate" version. It was just "OK" to us. It was dry, not nearly the texture of a true "gooey" of which I am quite familiar as I make them often for special occasions. In a pinch this would work .. not something I would substitute for the "real thing".

OMG...I've got to tell ya..My daughter-in-law and I were in Walmarts looking at some of your cakes. I bought one for our bible study and it was just wonderful. Well, she found your gooey butter cake on the clearance rack and bought it. OMG OMG OMG........I seriously thought I died and went to heaven.....OMG...I don't like it...I LOVE IT......Love it.....Love it........ Of course, we ate it in one sitting. I went the next day to buy another one and they did not have one... Well, I have been looking every time I go there and just found one a couple of days ago and I am telling ya....This is my all time favorite dessert. I can't put it down and I do not want to share it with anyone. I will not look at the calories as I know that anything this good has to have a million calories in it but I am beside myself with this one. I don't LOVE alot of foods but everytime I see you on TV, I KNOW that I love everthing that you make as I LOVE butter.... I am going to TRY Bobby's lighter version of this cake but I am just sure as can be it is not going to be as good and I am going to have to live at Walmarts from now on. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.................. No, seriously, I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We won't let your husband win on this one!!! Sometimes our own oven temperatures aren't calibrated correctly. Does yours run hot? For best results, bake this cake in the middle rack of the oven. The key to the filling is starting with room temperature cream cheese and really beating well after each addition of the eggs. The crust is a no brainer and I'm sure you had that perfect. Just give it another try. We have faith in you!!! Libbie Summers, Senior Food Editor

My friend and I just fell in love with your gooey cake from Wal-Mart as well. However when we tried to make it well lets just say we will never give up. The cake burns and the center is like liquid sugar. What are we doing wrong? We followed the recipe as shown below and we used a 13X9 pan. We have also tried lowering the temp and we got a little closer. Any suggestions, besides my husbands " Your not a cook and you should just stop trying, because I'm tired of eating the mistakes.(I need more tums)"

Why does he use a smaller pan? Can you make this in a 13x9in pan?

OMG I tried this from walmart and I fell in love with it, I couldn't stop saying mmmm, yummy, oh this is heaven in my hands, omg this is so yummy...so on and so on. I went back to walmart tonight to get another one and it was all gone so I got the chocolate one, not as good. I am so glad you got the recipe on here, I think I will make it in a 9 by 13 instead so I can get the same effect as walmart's...I love all your butter recipes, and my figure is starting to show it, but omg Paula you are the Goddess in the kitchen and I love your recipes...please adopt me for a summer and teach me to bake all those yummy recipes you make with all that YUMMY butter......Keep up the great butter recipes...

I don't know about Bobby's version but the one that Wal-Mart sells under the Paula Deen label is incredible. It's like a chess bar on buttered steroids! I can't wait to try the homemade version that doesn't have all the dough conditioners and preservatives, etc. Good luck Bobby.

This is cheese cake. You can't fool me. I am from St. Louis, and this tastes like a cheese cake. Gooey Butter cake is not cheese cake.
