Servings: 10 servings
Prep Time: 30 min
Cook Time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

8 ounces uncooked angel hair pasta
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 1/2 teaspoons Paula Deen’s House Seasoning
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Paula Deen Seasoned Salt
1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
2 cups tomato sauce
1 cup water
2 cups canned diced tomatoes
2   cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 cup diced green bell pepper
1/2 cup diced onion
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
1 cup Monterey Jack cheese
2   small bay leaves

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a stockpot, combine the tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, onions, peppers, garlic, parsley, seasoning mixtures, sugar, and bay leaves. Bring to a boil over high heat, and then reduce the heat and let simmer, covered, for 1 hour. Crumble the ground beef in a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until fully cooked, with no pink color remaining. Drain the fat from the meat, and then add the ground beef to the stockpot. Simmer for 20 more minutes. Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Cover the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch pan with sauce. Add a layer of pasta and then a little less than 1/2 of each cheese; repeat the layers, ending with the sauce. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Top the casserole with the remaining cheese, return it to the oven, and continue to cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5 more minutes. Cut into squares before serving.

Hi. I made your baked spaghetti today but I used spaghetti squash instead of pasta. I also used a whole pepper and added some spinach as well. I have spinach in a container in my freezer so it is easy to grab and add to a dish. Thanks, it was delicious!!!

I brown the ground beef, drain off drippings and cook with the sauce..can't tell any difference. I, also make the sauce and freeze for quick meals and unexpected company..add a salad and French bread and it's wonderful. Love Paula!

Well I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I have never had a problem with Paula's recipes before, I used the exact pan described and I think next time I am going to have to triple the meat sauce recipe, by the time it simmered for an hour there was barely enough to cover the bottom of the pan not to mention the top layer!

I made this last night and I thought it was delicious! I love the green peppers! Though the crowd I made it for wanted pepperoni in it, so I added a little to the recipe. I will definitely make it again.

Paula, I get very upset when people pick on you, it has to be jealousy. You go girl. You sure didn't get where you are at because of them. I am 77 years of age and I have some that are jealous of me and my crafty ways. Ms M

This is a favorite of mine -- I can make it ahead and have on hand for a family meal or for a casual company meal when you want something you can be pretty sure everyone will like. With garlic bread and a salad, it's a great recipe any time of year. I include browned sirloin with all of the other ingredients and cook the entire mixture for an hour instead of waiting to add the meat to the sauce after an hour.

Cook time on this is closer to 2 hrs: 1 hr 20 min for sauce and then 30 min + 5 min in oven. It's a wonderful recipe and we love it, just takes longer than stated.

I've been making this recipe of yours for several years now & it is a BIG favorite of ours! Hubby loves it a lot. It is so satisfying & hearty. It makes a lot & since it is just the two of us sometimes I freeze some of it for later. It always defrosts & reheats great! Sometimes I use different cheeses & maybe different variations of the spices & it always turns out great! Sometimes I don't have time to let the tomato mixture simmer for an hour & it turns out just fine anyway!

This is without a doubt my favourite pasta recipe! The steps are simple, the sauce is beautifully sweet and it's so hearty and filling that there's always some left over for the next day. Thanks Paula smile
