Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding Not Yo’ Mama’s Banana Pudding

A new twist on an old favorite.  This banana pudding is delicious and pretty too!

Servings: 12 servings
Prep Time: 30 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1   12-ounce container frozen whipped topping thawed, or equal amount sweetened whip
1   14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1   8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 cup milk
1   5-ounce box instant French vanilla pudding
6-8   bananas, sliced
2   bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies

Directions

Line the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.

In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer.  Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth.  Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture.  Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended.  Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies.  Refrigerate until ready to serve.

This is the best Banana Pudding I have ever tasted! we used to make it for the Fourth of July Parties. Always a big hit. And even thought it is rich, it never lasted very long!

I am gluten sensitive so I used gluten-free shortbread cookies in place of the Chessmen cookies. I also used banana yogurt in place of 1/2 of the whipped topping- I didn't buy enough topping! I liked it; it wasn't too sweet and it didn't make me itch!

To the commenter who stated that this recipe was "artifical tasting"... there's 8, I repeat EIGHT bananas in that dessert. How can a banana pudding recipe taste artificial if it's like this reviewer... FULL OF BANANAS!

Sorry - this was waaaay too sweet and artificial tasting. Horrible. Someone brought to a dessert potluck and everyone was raving, so I had to try. I would not eat again.

Had this over at family's Thanksgiving Day. Though I kept mistakenly calling it "Can't Cha Momma Do It" banana pudding, I must say it's definitely Not Yo Mama's B. Pudding!! Love it!

This was way too sweet, you could taste the condensed milk. This is in no way better to traditional southern banana pudding. I would not eat this again!

I have been making an old fashioned banana pudding from a recipe I got from 'Granny Williams' (a sweet lady in my church)years ago. She has since passed on but I always tell everyone I make 'real' banana like she used to make. My daughter in law introduced me to your banana pudding last year and it has taken the place of my pudding with the family. Although I still love my 'real' pudding this definitely tops it! Thank you for sharing the recipe with us. Best wishes for you and what God has in store for your future.

Last year for Thanksgiving dinner for the family I made this pudding.  It was SOOOOO delicious that I’m making it again this year for Thanksgiving!  smile

By Sandy Peterson-Clauser on November 24, 2010

This is SO-O-O-O good.  I cannot eat bananas, but the taste of the pudding before topping the banana slices is so rich and creamy.  I like to dip the cookies in it and taste the pudding.  My family and everyone else who has tasted it comments that it is the very best they’ve tasted.

By Ruth Barton on November 05, 2010

I love this banana pudding recipe! I made it about 9 years ago when I first saw it on Paulas show. When I wanted to make it again I could not find the recipe anywhere. I am so glad to see it again!! YEAH!

By JP on October 14, 2010

Cindy, you can dip your bananas in lemon juice to keep them from turning dark.  It works for me, hope it does for you too

By Pat on October 01, 2010

Is there anything i can dip the banana slices in to keep them from turning black so quickly. Thanks,Cindy

By Cindy Brown on July 08, 2010

This is by far the BEST banana pudding I’ve ever had. I’m from the south and have had MANY versions of this southern delight, but this one is the best! It is so easy and is a wonderful potluck or picnic dish (just keep refrigerated until serving).  I always get requests for the recipe. This recipe is a family favorite!
