Mama's Pound Cake Recipe by Paula Deen

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for pan
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 lb (2 sticks) butter, plus more for pan
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Preheat oven to 350°.


With a mixer, cream butter and shortening together. To the bowl, add sugar a little at a time. Then, add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. In another bowl, stir dry ingredients together then add to mixer alternately with milk, starting with the flour and ending with the flour. Mix in vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

I bake this for my mother in law who is in a nursing home! She loves it! When she doesn't like the food served for dinner at the home, she knows she has this delicious treat waiting for her in her room! 5*****

I love this cake

I love this cake. We have been making it at least once a month since the first time I saw it on her show on food network. It is great just to have in the house for no special reason and perfect for holiday dinners. Thank you Paula for sharing Mama's pound cake with us!!!
