My husband is disabled (and very independant) he walks with a cane because of his fused spine and broken hip because of a work related injury (a car fell on him while he was changing a tire) and he is like you, Midnight, he would curse someone who faked a disability because he feels so many are fortunate to NOT have to use a mobility device. He will be disabled the rest of his life but he is slowly coming out of just laying there.

Anyway, back to my point. That is good to know because I am an out-of-towner and would LOVE the chance to eat her good cookin’.

hi nanaty, the whole month of February is a pretty easy time to get a reservation, in fact, Jan/Feb you can usually just walk in.  Come March though and the snowbirds flock in and through the summer it is a very good idea to show up early and get your reservation.

What about the fall, like October/November?

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.

So, I understand that a host/hostess arrives outside the restaurant at 9:30 am to take names for lunch/dinner reservations.  However, what time do they start lining up?  What time should I arrive outside the restaurant to make sure my family in able to dine at the TL&S?  My family plans on arriving in Savannah on Friday evening, April 10th and would like to dine at the TL&S on Saturday, April 11th.  Thanks!

Now that we have kicked off the busy season March through Sept., folks start lining up around 8:30. While the host doesn’t start taking names until 9:30, our guest usually grab a cup of coffee and chat with the other guest while in line waiting for the host to start taking the names. You are sure to make some new friends while waiting. Getting there early ensures you get the specific time that you want to dine with us. Good luck and safe travels

I moved to Savannah last year, but I have yet to eat at The Lady & Sons.  I can’t stand in that line because I’m disabled and walk with a cane.  My limit for standing in line is about 15 minutes.  I wish they would make an exception to their reservation policy for the disabled.  Perhaps this is an issue that just never came to mind to Paula.  I mean no disrespect to Paula, Jamie and Bobby.

I’m not the only disabled person I’ve heard that they had to cancel plans to eat there because of the line and the requirement that you must be at the restaurant at 9:30 AM to get your name on the list.

Yes, I could get someone to bring me in a wheelchair, but that defeats the purpose of being self-reliant, which is something that most disabled persons desire and work hard to accomplish.

The only times that you can make a telephone reservation is on holidays and if you have 10 or more people in your party.  Why can’t a single disabled person make a telephone reservation?  It wouldn’t be a bother to have to wait indoors in a chair for the next table, either.

Surely there are some sort of accomodations that can be provided for the disabled at The Lady & Sons regarding the reservation issue.

—————————————

May I offer another option to persons with disabilities? (I’m in a wheelchair now) and remember the days when I couldn’t stand either.  A less expensive option is using what is called a seated walker.  I have one and use it inside the house, they are great, and perfect for waiting in lines.  It’s basically a walker with wheels and a hand brake that has a flip down seat.  When you can’t stand, you flip down the seat, set the brake (it’s just a quick flip of the hand, the brake is on the handlebars), then turn and sit, voila.  There are many varieties, and can be bought for under $200.  Feel free to send me an e-mail if anyone has questions.

Dear Admin,
I am wondering in this day in age, why there is even a need to pass out reservations in person?
I’m disabled, and it’s chronically painful just to get into and out of my vehicle (it can take 15 minutes).  I (and many) wheelchair users experience more pain in the morning, and it would be energy draining and extremely painful to even try to get somewhere that early, then wait in line, much less having to come back later just to eat, I just couldn’t do it.
May I offer another option, how about (at least for disabled customers but good for everyone), being able to get the reservation on-line, place a hold via credit card, charge say a $20 (or whatever price works best) non-refundable fee per each person (that way you still make money if it’s a no-show).  Give the person a confirmation number.  That would also free up the lines in the morning.  You can use a free service such as Pay Pal, it’s easy and free for the customer as well as for the basic business owner (I use it all the time).  At the very least, this could be done via snail mail, where people send you a check (for those who don’t have a credit card).  There are many on-line options out there, may I respectfully ask that you’all look into some of them.
(I also attempted to get to the older restaurant a few years ago but it didn’t work out), I’d love to be able to get there in the future.
respectfully,
dee

hi to all my disabled friends,

i know that paula changed the policy for the disabled.  all you have to do is go and walk to the receptionist who is taking reservations and you will be given a time to come back to eat.  this issue was brought up awhile back.  enjoy eating at the lady and sons without concern that you all have to stand and wait.

Is it still super busy with long lines or do you think we could get a reservation in quickly mid week? We will be in the area soon and my Mother is disabled and can’t stand for long or walk for long, plus she just had another surgery. We would like to go for an early lunch. I read that in Feb they were allowing anyone to call in and make a reservation, is that happening for November? Thanks in advance for any help!
