The following guide was compiled from questions and answers posted in our forum help section. The answers are from our admins as well as fellow users.
What are the guidelines?
Be respectful of others and avoid posting content that you wouldn’t want a 12-year-old to read. Additionally, please do not post any links to Food Network. The forums are moderated daily, and the admins will remove any content deemed inappropriate. Additionally, we welcome your recipe ideas, but you may not post recipes that are owned by other websites or cookbooks. Copyrighted recipes will be deleted; repeat offenders will be removed.
Why can you only post every 60 seconds?
Unfortunately spam is a fact of life on the internet, not just in email, but in forums also. The 60 second delay makes our forums a very unattractive target for spammers.
How do I send a Private Message (PM)?
Click your control panel then on the left side open your private messages tab. Enter the user’s name and send it just like a regular email.
How can I tell if my PM was sent?
To see sent PMs, there is a small trick. When you are composing a message, at the bottom before the “submit” button, you need to click the check box next to “Store a copy in the Sent messages folder?”
How many private messages can I send?
You are limited to 100 in a 24 hour period.
Why is there now an astrix after my name on the active members list?
The asterisk means that you are hiding your online status from other users. So that means when you are logged on, your name does not appear visible to others at the bottom of the message board.
How do I post an avatar?
At the top of the screen, click on “your control panel”, then click on “edit avatar”. Follow instructions from there.
How I post a signature?
At the top of the screen, click on “your control panel”, then click on “edit signature”. Follow instructions from there.
How do I post a link?
Hit the <a> button at the top of the editor and fill in the boxes. This will post the link correctly.
How do I post pictures/graphics within my posts?
When you are making a post, scroll down to where you see ‘attachments’. Click on ‘browse’, and it will bring up photos on your computer. Click on the one you want to post (making sure you have ‘downsized’ it).
How do I change the colors of my text?
Click “post reply.” At the top, you will see “Font Formating” and two pull down boxes. Select the color you want from the color box. You will then see color=green (if you chose green) and some brackets. Type your text between the ][. Then click “submit post.”

How do I post smiley faces?
On your “Post A New Reply” screen, look to the left under the word “Message”. Click the Smileys button. A small box appears with smileys. Just put the cursor wherever you want the smiley & click on the smiley.
Why does it say “Newbie” under my forum name?
When a person first joins, they are a “Newbie” for 50 posts. After 50 posts, your profile will say “Member.”
What are Logged-in Users, Anonymous Users, and Guest Users?
If you look at the URL which is a fancy term for the web address you will see that the forums are part of our recipes section and we count all those visitors together. So, many of the folks that you see as ‘guests’ are probably browsing the recipe database, the anons are either me in stealth mode or google, yahoo, etc….. indexing the site, and last but certainly not least logged in users are you folks, the community.
