French Onion Dip Recipe by Paula Deen

  • 2 large Vidalia onion, diced
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 (16 oz) container sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon French onion soup mix
  • 1 tablepsoon cayenne pepper


Step 1

In a large sauté pan over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions and season with pepper. Lower heat and let sauté until caramelized, about ten minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese and sour cream. Add the onion soup mix and beat. Once mixed, stir in the caramelized onions with a rubber spatula and add the paprika and cayenne.

Step 3

Transfer to a serving dish and place in the fridge for at least one hour before serving.

Step 4

Garnish with chives and serve with potato chips, pita chips and fresh vegetables.

The prep directi

The prep directions are confusing, forgot to add the vegetable oil with the butter,took forever to caramelize them onions :( Noted in pen, will try again

Oh this is great

Oh this is great I have to bring a dip to our Christmas party next weekend, so excited not to have to bring the same old dip, yea!

Pauls u out did

Pauls u out did yourself. Course I cannot eat spicy hot stuff. So I had to leave that out. We all loved it. This I will make very often.
U have done it again Paula. Jus love u to pieces. My chips & vegetables won't be lonely anymore.
I give it 10 stars. nay, make it 1000 stars.
