Over this past Labor Day weekend, my husband and I were guests of a colorful couple, Larry and Toni, in Shelter Island, NY. That is deep in Yankee country for me, but the thought of cooler temperatures kept me focused as we traveled via three planes, one car and a ferry to arrive at this bucolic destination.
What a great 4 days we had…well…3.90.
We laughed, ate and drank our way through kiteboarding sessions on Crab Creek, yachting on Peconic Bay and meals for three days made from 35 bugs (that’s lobster to anyone outside of Maine). I was holding my own with these Northern Foodies…until…wait for it…there was shrimp and grits on the yacht club Labor Day party buffet. What? Shrimp and Grits in the Hamptons? That’s like Paula serving Dim Sum on the buffet at The Lady and Son’s.
I was shamed into trying it. And, like any Southern/Midwestern lady, I carefully spat the rubbery tasteless grits into my monogramed yacht club napkin…for ALL to witness…who said I was a lady anyway.
This week on PaulaDeen.com, we salute all that is right in the world with the delicious Southern seafood dishes served at Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House. I’m heading there for lunch tomorrow if you’d like to join me…I’ll be the one with the paper napkin and a big bowl full of creamy Shrimp and Grits.
Eat something homemade and always know your place at the yacht club table,
Libbie

Libbie, Thanks for reminding me of how delicious Bubba's food is. Not only is the food outstanding, Bubba is a great host...made us feel right at home. I often serve shrimp and grits when we have company and now I'm going to make this the next time we have guests. Thanks again, Peppy

Libby,
Greetings from Kentucky. Funny! Funny! Funny!
I never liked or ate grits until I had the Shrimp and Grits form Bubby’s. Loved the dish. Fantastic! We were there in May and ate most of our meals at Bubby’s. The shrimp, osters, scallops, and Low Country Boil and oh, the char grilled osters were all Fantastic. Everything was cooked perfect. Looks like we’ll be coming back again next year for the fourth year. We’ll be at Bubby’s for the Best Seafood I’ve ever ate.
Take care and God Bless
