“The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch swing with, never say a word, then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation that you ever had.”
My swing has a fiery redhead to my right and a sassy brunette to my left. You can call them by their given names: Lynn and Brenda.
Last week, was a HUGE week for us at pauladeen.com. Four times a year, we have photo shoots for content for this amazing website. We prep for two days, shoot with Paula for one day (minus 2 hours for a meet and greet with President Obama) and then shoot two more days of feature and food shots. One of the things I love best about these twelve hour back breaking days is working with my friends.
Lynn (the fiery redhead on my porch swing) is a superstar designer who loves a Randy Travis tune and can spot an authentic Barcelona chair at twenty yards. She is one of those people, like my sister, who can name all Benjamin Moore colors by their number. I am in awe of her eye for the finest details, and selfishly, I got her into photo styling because I wanted to hang out with her more often.
Brenda is the sassy brunette with a heart of pure gold and a laugh that resonates through a stadium. Her role in this week of madness was coordinating and cooking over 80 recipes…and, making me laugh. Since she’s out in the garage cooking, I don’t get to see her much until we break for a quick lunch. The best 20 minutes of the day.
This week, as we sat together at lunch…sometimes talking and laughing…sometimes just in quiet reflection, I thought how lucky I was to have these women in my life. Sitting with me on my porch swing, pushing my swing higher, or just pushing me off so they could sit down! To my dear and talented friends, Lynn and Brenda…Thank you and I love you.
